Paul Nicholls Superboost

Bravemansgame finished runner-up in last year's Cheltenham Gold Cup and he's never failed to finish in the top five over fences. You can back him now to finish in the top five in today's Gold Cup at 15:30 at the super-boosted price of 2/13.00.

A competitive Cheltenham Gold Cup is the highlight of the final day of the festival. There appears to be potential for significant rainfall so my working theory is that conditions will remain testing, hence my four tips for Friday.

13:30 - Triumph Hurdle: Back Storm Heart

This could get messy with the participation of Sir Gino in some doubt at the time of writing. Reductions should be factored into advised prices if he fails to show.

Paul Townend stays loyal to Storm Heart. That's probably not massively significant but he might have unfinished business with this horse, as the ride at the Dublin Racing Festival wasn't his finest moment. The horse was a bit keen and Townend failed to get cover. He stuck on gamely but was unable to reel in his more efficiently ridden stablemate Kargese.

I fancy Storm Heart to turn the tables over this longer trip. If that proves the case, he should go very close.

14:10 - County Hurdle: Back Bialystok

Hopefully Willie Mullins' domination of this meeting continues here. Bialystok looked a horse going places when winning a handicap at the Punchestown Festival in good style. He probably hasn't lived up to that promise since, however he has kept good company, finishing fourth in a Grade 1 novice hurdle for example.

He looked to be travelling kindly when brought down at the penultimate flight at the Dublin Racing Festival. The UK handicapper gives him a chance off a mark of 139. Testing ground shouldn't be a problem and I will cover my bet in the 4 place market.

14:50 - Albert Bartlett: Back Captain Teague

Backing UK trained novice hurdlers this week has proved a fools errand. At the risk of looking foolish, I will chance Captain Teague here. He ran a big race when hitting the board in the 2023 Champion Bumper and his hurdling career has gone well too.

He was value for more than the winning margin in the Challow last time out, though admittedly his jumping can be a little clumsy but perhaps that will be under less pressure over three miles on this course. Expect him to travel comfortably and hopefully find enough when Harry Cobden asks for a winning effort after the last.

17:30 - Martin Pipe: Back Waterford Whispers

Henry De Bromhead is some man to prime horses for this meeting. Waterford Whipsers has won two of his four career starts despite looking understandably inexperienced. The form of his victory on his penultimate start in Fairyhouse reads well.

It was a touch disappointing that he failed to reel in Champagne Admiral in Leopardstown over Christmas. That experience will stand to him here mind you.

A mark of 133 asks a big question but this is a tricky horse to assess. Hopefully he has improved enough since we last saw him to win here. He looks a fair price to my eye.
