Cheltenham Festival Tips: Rhys Williams takes a two-pronged attack in the Boodles on day one

Cheltenham
Our racing expert has two selections on Tuesday

Our resident tipster has analysed the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival and has two bets in the Boodles.

Rachael Blackmore Superboost

Rachael has a good chance on Quilixios in the Arkle Chase at 14:10 today, and if you fancy the horse to run well you can back it at the super-boosted price of 6/42.50 (from 4/61.67) to finish in the top top four.

Cheltenham - 16:50 - Back Batman Girac

Batman Girac looked an obvious type for this race after finishing fourth in a Grade 2 at Leopardstown and he's now drifted to an attractive price.

He started his career in France and showed some promise on debut before winning quite comfortably on his second start at Compiegne.

Both of those runs were on left-handed tracks and his first try going right-handed at Fairyhouse didn't go to plan as he hung badly left and finished tailed off.

Back on a left-handed track last time, he was far more at home and put in a much improved performance. He was held up and very briefly dropped back to last after jumping two out but he was still travelling well at that stage and he made late headway, while not being given a particularly hard ride, to finish fourth.

I think he's yet to have circumstances that would see him to best effect in any of his four starts but this race looks ideal for him and he can take a step forward as a result.

He should have no issues settling off a strong pace and his smooth travelling style can see him gradually pick horses off before being delivered with a late challenge. Any 8/19.00 or bigger appeals.

Cheltenham - 16:50 - Back Les Loyautes

At a much bigger price, another horse that started their career in France makes some appeal.

Les Loyautes has plenty of jumping experience having had nine starts for Dominique Bressou and it's the second of those that is the key to her chance today. On soft ground at Compiegne, she was ridden patiently before easing closer on the run to the last and she got the better of Kara Diamond and La Spezia who have both won Grade 3s since.

Les Loyautes failed to build on that subsequently but the ground was too quick for her when she pulled up on her final start over hurdles at Auteuil and she's small so I'm not sure the switch to fences after that suited her.

She's now back over hurdles on her first start for Nigel Twiston-Davies and the rain that's fallen will likely be in her favour.

It may be that she's just a one-hit wonder but Les Loyautes hasn't had the circumstances to show her true ability on many occasions and she gets the chance once again today. Any 33/134.00 or bigger appeals.

Back Les Loyautes in the 16:50 at Cheltenham 0.5pt e/w at 50/151.00
