Scottish Open: Cantlay and Fitzpatrick chanced at the Renaissance

Steve Rawlings: "As always, previous links form is a huge plus, so the usual rules apply: look at form at this event over the last 11 years, the 2009, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019 editions of the Irish Open, the 2019 British Masters from Hillside Links, the Open Championship, and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship for clues.

"Links golf is unique and those events have all been staged on links courses. Stats-wise, putting has been key. Both the playoff protagonists in 2019 putted well, ranking third and fifth for Putting Average. The 2019 winner, Rai, only ranked 29th for Putting Average, but he was the only player in the top-five to rank outside the top-20 for PA...

"After an ordinary run of form since finishing third at The Heritage, Patrick Cantlay finished 14th at the US Open after a slow start (he sat 49th at halfway) and he finished fourth at the Travelers Championship last time out.

"On both occasions, he putted really nicely, ranking fourth and fifth for Putting Average and he finished fourth here 12 months ago on his only previous visit to the Renaissance.

"No bigger than 14/1 and as short as 10/1 on the High Street, he's a very fair price on the Exchange at 19.0 and I was more than happy to play him given the recent record of the Americans."

Scottish Open Each-Way Tips: Back 66/1 local hero MacIntyre

Dave Tindall says: "I'm going to give local hero Robert MacIntyre a go at 66/1. It didn't work out for the Scot in last week's Made in HimmerLand in Denmark when he let an obvious winning chance slip and dropped back to fourth.

"But it's fair to surmise that MacIntyre watched Dane Rasmus Hojgaard lift the trophy in front of the home fans and was left thinking, 'that's pretty cool; I'll have some of that'.

"Here in Scotland he gets an immediate chance to do so and there's enough in his stats, course and current form to think that the left-hander can give it a good go.

"MacIntyre has finished 14th and 18th in two of the last three editions and shot seven straight rounds in the 60s across those two events so he clearly gets on well with the course.

"In his last 10 starts, he has four top 10s and a further pair of top 20s so the lure of the Ryder Cup is definitely kicking in."

Back Robert MacIntyre each way @ 66/1

Scottish Open First-Round Leader Tips: Look to Luiten for a 100/1 winner

Dave Tindall: "Luiten has finished eighth and second in his last two starts so is in fine form. And, as for starting fast, he's been inside the top eight after 18 holes in three of his last five events.

"Looking at course form, his penultimate trip to The Renaissance Club ended in a top 20 but, more pertinently, he opened that week with a 63 to sit second after day one.

"Back Luiten to shine from his 08.54 tee time."

Scottish Open 2023: Course and current form stats

Andy Swales: "The Renaissance Club, which covers a 300-acre site and overlooks the south bank of the Firth of Forth, was opened in April 2008. Since then its routing has changed, following the purchase of additional land nearby.

"It's a links course that has a little more vegetation than normal, as well as a scarcity of sand dunes. The venue's main defence is its heavily contoured putting surfaces, along with fluctuating coastal wind...

"Thomas Detry [125/1] is a high-priced each-way contender. Averages 68.56 for his 16 rounds at The Renaissance Club, where he lost a play-off two years ago and tied-10th in 2022."

Barbasol Championship 2023: Course and current form stats

Andy Swales: "The Champion Course at Keene Trace is approximately six miles south-west of Lexington city centre, Nicholasville. It is a rolling parkland layout designed by Arthur Hills and opened 36 years ago.

"There are large Bentgrass greens, wide tree-lined fairways, while water comes into play on six holes. However, it is one of the easier venues the golfers will contest on the PGA Tour, with the four previous winners here averaging 23.75 under par for 72 holes...

"Lucas Glover [22/1], the 2009 US Open champion is in good current form having posted top-six finishes in each of his last two starts."
