Herve Renard is enjoying his first tournament with his native France

We're reaching the end of the Women's World Cup's first knockout round, and Kevin Hatchard has two bets for Tuesday's ties.

  • France on a high after winning tough group

  • Diani smashed in hat-trick v Panama

  • Colombia can edge hard-fought game

France v Morocco - KO: 12:00

With big hitters like the USA, Brazil and Germany all falling by the wayside, things are looking up for a France team that has rediscovered its equilibrium since Herve Renard replaced Corinne Diacre as coach.

Although Les Bleues lost stars like Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Delphine Cascarino to serious injury before the tournament, the return of Eugenie Le Sommer and Wendie Renard after their spats with Diacre mitigated those losses, and Renard's headed winner against Brazil in the group stage could prove to be a pivotal moment in their campaign.

France showed their attacking power against Panama in their final group game, winning 6-3. Kadidiatou Diani, who has just signed for mighty Lyon from PSG, netted a hat-trick.

Diani has been a constant threat throughout the group stage, and she now has 25 international goals from 87 caps. Diani's new Lyon team-mate Vicki Becho has also shone at this tournament, and scored late on against Panama.

Morocco have exceeded all expectations by reaching the knockout phase of their first ever World Cup finals, and coach Reynald Pedros has worked a miracle to lift his side after they lost their opening game 6-0 against Germany. Investing in an elite coach like Pedros, who has won two Ligue 1 titles and two Champions Leagues with Lyon, has proven a sensible strategy.

Morocco won their last two games 1-0 against South Korea and Colombia, and it is their defensive strength which provides their only genuine hope of progress here.

When they reached the final of WAFCON (their first tournament under Pedros), they conceded just three goals in five games before their 2-1 defeat in the showpiece event against South Africa.

As well as Morocco have done, France have the experience and the firepower to see them off here. I'll back France to win and Diani to score on the Bet Builder at 1.8810/11.

Colombia v Jamaica - KO: 09:00

This last-16 clash brings together two sides who have already caused a stir with shock results. Colombia's dramatic win over Germany was the main reason the European Championship finalists failed to escape their group, while Jamaica qualified for the last 16 by holding both France and Brazil to goalless draws.

While Jamaica do have a top-class striker at their disposal in Manchester City's Khadija Shaw, it's their defensive organisation which has got them this far.

The Reggae Girlz haven't conceded a single goal at this tournament, an extraordinary effort from a team ranked 43rd in the world. It's a complete change from their efforts at the 2019 World Cup, where they lost all three games and conceded 12 goals along the way.

Colombia have been improving for a while, and their progress to this stage was less surprising, although they weren't expected to top their group. The South Americans reached the final of the last Copa America Femenina, and in teenage forward Linda Caicedo they have a superstar in the making.

The Real Madrid player scored a stunning goal against Germany, and also netted in their opener against South Korea.

I think Colombia will eventually prove too strong for Jamaica, but they'll be made to work incredibly hard, so I'll use the Sportsbook's Bet Builder to back Jamaica +2 on the Handicap, Under 2.5 Goals and Colombia to qualify at 2.727/4.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tie is level at 0-0 or 1-1 after 90 minutes, and then Colombia find a way to progress in extra time. Even a 1-0 Colombia win in normal time would do the trick.

Back Jamaica +2, Under 2.5 Goals and Colombia to qualify at 2.727/4
