They took their sweet time about it, but the Republic of Ireland produced a second-half surge to beat Gibraltar 3-0, and Evan Ferguson struck his first competitive goal for his country to land our Bet Builder.
We'll stick with the EURO 2024 qualifiers, because Scotland are looking to take another big stride towards the finals in Germany with a home win against Georgia.
Clarke's men on track for glory
Having led Scotland to their first major tournament in decades when they qualified for EURO 2020, Steve Clarke is on course to repeat the trick. Scotland have won all three of their qualifiers, and given that the top two in each group automatically qualify for EURO 2024, they aren't too far away from clinching a place.
Scotland produced an outstanding display in a febrile atmosphere to win their last home qualifier against Spain, and then came up with a remarkable comeback victory in Oslo against Norway. Scotland looked to have run out of ideas, as they were 1-0 down thanks to an Erling Haaland penalty and were failing to make an impact at the top end of the pitch.
However, in the 87th minute Lyndon Dykes scored a scrappy equaliser, and two minutes later Dykes produced a delicate cushioned header for Kenny McLean to fire in a superb winner. In a flash, Scotland had cut down one of their direct rivals for qualification, and a win against Georgia would bolster hopes of even winning the group.
Clarke has no fresh injury concerns, and defenders Harry Souttar and Nathan Patterson are back in contention after missing the Norway trip with injury.
Kvaradona not the only threat
Georgia have an outstanding player in Napoli's Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, the flying winger who has just helped fire his side to Serie A glory. He is a constant source of goals and assists at club level, so much so that the Napoli tifosi have dubbed him "Kvaradona" in reference to club legend Diego Maradona. High praise indeed.
Kvaratskhelia is the leading light for Georgia too, having banged in ten goals in 23 caps for a modest side, but there are other threats too. Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has a growing reputation, while Metz forward Georges Mikautadze has been in super form domestically.
Georgia have lost just one of their last 15 internationals, and they have started these qualifiers with a 1-1 draw against Norway and a 2-1 win in Cyprus. In the Nations League, Georgia have won five of their last six matches.
Scotland to win it, but don't expect a hammering
Given the way Scotland overwhelmed Spain and stunned Norway, it's tempting to assume they'll be able to breeze past a Georgia side with a weaker reputation, but the visitors go into this game with plenty of confidence.
As a result, I'll use the Exchange's Asian Handicap market to back Scotland -1.0 at 1.9620/21. If Scotland win by a single goal, we get our stake returned, but a bigger home win nets us a full pay-out at nearly evens. Scotland have won their last five games at Hampden Park, and four of those victories were by multiple-goal margins.
