Thiago Motta's hoping for another Bologna away win tonight

Bologna can sign off their good season with a win at Genoa tonight, says Tobias Gourlay

In Ireland last night, Waterford came from two down to beat Drogheda United 4-2 thanks in big part to Padraig Amond's second-half hat-trick. We owe him a drink.

We're in Italy today for the Friday-night Serie A match between 11th-placed Genoa and fourth-placed Bologna. Comfortable in mid-table, the hosts have little left to play for. The visitors, though, need to finish their successful season with a win to give themselves the best chance of fending off Atalanta and keeping hold of a Champions League spot.

Thiago Motta's Bologna are two points ahead of Atalanta, who have a game in hand. A win here would leave Atalanta needing to win both their last two games to overtake Bologna, while Juventus - who are level on points with Bologna - would need to win to stay ahead of Motta's men. Luckily, Bologna are unbeaten in eight on their travels, winning five of the last seven.

Alberto Gilardino's Genoa are a robust W7-D6-L5 on their own patch this season. Hosting top-eight teams like Bologna, though, that record slips to W1-D2-L4. Given Bologna's greater need tonight, we'll take the visitors to walk away with all three points.
