Premier League Latest: Man City go odds-on for title after win over Gunners

Premier League Winner odds
Man City are the new favourites to win the title

In a dramatic weekend of Premier League football Manchester City have gone favourites to win the title, the top five positions are all but decided, and Tottenham have sunk deeper into relegation trouble. Mike Norman has the details...

Citizens go favouries for the title

Manchester City are the new favourites at 4/71.57 to win the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 win over their title rivals Arsenal at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon.

Erling Haaland scored the winning goal midway through the second half after Kai Havertz had earlier cancelled out Rayan Cherki's first half strike.

The victory moves Pep Guardiola's men within three points of the Gunners but crucially they have a game in hand meaning that should they beat second-bottom Burnley in midweek then they are guaranteed to go top of the table either on goal difference (should they win by two or more goals) or courtesy of goals scored (should they win by only a single goal).

Incredibly, Man City have only been top of the Premier League table for six days throughout the season!

Arsenal, who had been a short as 1/201.05 to win the title just a short while ago, are out to 13/102.30 to win the Premier League title.

Top 5 all but decided after dramatic Sunday

Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool all picked up three points in Matchday 33 meaning the Champions League qualifying positions are all but decided - according to the Betfair Sportsbook at least - with five games of the season remaining.

Man United got the ball rolling on Saturday evening with an uninspiring 1-0 win at Chelsea thanks to a first half Matheus  Cunha strike from an assist by... who else... Bruno Fernandes.

United were second best for much of the game and managed just four shots in the whole match - their lowest tally of the season - but they crucially hung on for the three points which takes them 10 points ahead of the Blues and almost certain to finish in the top five this season. They're 1/2001.01 on the Betfair Sportsbook to do so.

Liverpool and Aston Villa secured their points in far more dramatic fashion thanks to stoppage-time winners against Everton and Sunderland respectively on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool were heading for a 1-1 draw in the first ever Merseyside derby at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after Mo Salah's first half goal was cancelled out by Beto, but in the 100th minute of the game Virgil van Dijk headed home a corner to give the Reds a crucial victory, one that has them seven points above Chelsea and trading at 1/331.03 to record a Top 5 Finish.

Aston Villa were involved in a seven-goal thriller at Villa Park, but after seeing the Black Cats score two quick goals to level the game at 3-3 with just minutes remaining up popped Tabby Abraham to score from close range in the 93rd minute to secure all three points and keep Villa in fourth place, 10 points ahead of Chelsea in sixth.

Villa are now 1/801.01 to finish in the top five at the end of the season with Chelsea, seemingly the most likely team who can catch any of the top three should they falter, available to back at 9/110.00.

Spurs fall deeper into relegation trouble

Tottenham have shortened to 7/101.70 to be relegated after they lost further ground on two of the three teams immediately above them despite drawing 2-2 with Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Pedro Porro and Xavi Simons twice gave Spurs the lead but they were pegged back in stoppage time at both the end of the first half and at the end of the second half - the Seagulls scoring in the 95th minute - meaning they only took one point while both Leeds and Nottingham Forest secured maximum points.

Leeds easily beat Wolves 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to move them eight points above the drop zone, while Nottm Forest came from a goal down to beat Burnley 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Forest are five points above Tottenham - who currently sit 18th in the table - and can be backed at 17/29.50 to be relegated while Leeds are out to 40/141.00 after their second win in the space of six days.

With both Wolves and Burnley almost certain to be relegated, the market suggests either Spurs or West Ham will join them in the Championship next season. The Hammers face a crucial game at Crystal Palace on Monday night and they currently trade at 5/42.25 to go down.
