Premier League Tipsheet: Four terrific weekend bets from 7/5 to 17/4

Thomas Frank, Brentford boss
It's been a tough season so far for Frank

Ste Tudor highlights where the goals and three points will likely be found to get this weekend started.

Burnley v Brentford (Sat, 15:00) - Sorry tales

Yoane Wissa's return to goal-scoring form post-AFCON has been a big boon for the Bees, taking the onus off Ivan Toney. The Congolese attacker has fired three in three and boasts 2.2 shots per game for the season.

Recent good form shown by Mads Roerslev down the right is another plus, although in truth the negatives far outweigh any positives for Brentford of late, and really that's been true for much of this season. What has consistently undermined Thomas Frank's mandate is key absences at the back and with Ethan Pinnock still unavailable that remains the case at Turf Moor.

Conceding more headers than any other team hasn't helped their cause and just one clean sheet in 18 tells a sorry tale.

At least here they're coming up against a side who struggle to carve out opportunities and, more often than not, are wasteful of them when they arrive.

Only Sheffield United have created fewer big chances in 2023/24 than a Burnley side that look doomed to join the Blades back in the Championship.

At the other end Vincent Kompany's poorly protected back four have conceded every half an hour since Christmas.

One detail that surprises given their woes is that Brentford have managed to score in both halves on eight occasions this term. Backing them to do likewise this Saturday therefore makes sense.

Back Brentford to score in both halves @ 15/82.88

Luton v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00) - Right response

How the Hatters psychologically respond to throwing away a three-goal half-time lead on Wednesday night will go a long way to determining the outcome here.

Rob Edwards' men were sensationally good in the opening 45 against Bournemouth, with Alfie Doughty racking up a seventh assist of the campaign and Ross Barkley doing Ross Barkley things. Doughty's form puts him on par with Phil Foden.

At the break on Wednesday, leading 3-0, Luton looked destined to climb out of the bottom three. By 9.15pm, however, they had become the first Premier League side in over two decades to lose from such a considerable advantage.

Still, Saturday offers up a second chance to pull clear of the drop-zone, this time at the direct expense of their opponents. Luton are winless in seven - an obvious concern - but they at least have a significant edge over Forest in that they know their way to goal.

The last time the Hatters failed to get on the scoresheet was against Manchester United back in early November, a team they have out-scored this term. Since that narrow loss Luton have averaged 1.9 goals per 90 minutes, converting three-plus on five occasions.

Forest meanwhile haven't scored for over five hours, a 7.9% conversion rate for 2023/24 costing them dear. Moreover, their away form is consistently dire, keeping just two clean sheets in their last 24 on the road.

Back Luton and over 1.5 @ 9/43.25

Fulham v Tottenham (Sat, 17:30) - Worth the wait

For the most part, Fulham have been a decent proposition at Craven Cottage this season, scoring 3+ goals six times there, most recently putting Brighton to the sword.

In Rodrigo Muniz, they possess a striker in uncharacteristically prolific form, converting five in six.

Yet, all the same, it's difficult to look past an away victory here, especially after witnessing the manner in which Spurs dismantled an admittedly jaded Aston Villa last Sunday, outclassing their top four rival.

Once again, Tottenham reserved their best for after the break and the disparity in their strike-rate this season is compelling. Eighteen of their last 22 league goals have been converted in the second period.

Determining who might continue this trend leads us to Son Heung-min, who scored against Villa and assisted twice-over. It is pertinent too that only Mo Salah has created more big chances this season than the Korean striker.

It's also worth noting that Palhinha was booked in both encounters between these clubs last season. He was cautioned last week too, straight after returning from suspension.

Back Son Heung-min to score or assist and Palhinha to receive a card @ 17/45.25

West Ham v Aston Villa (Sun, 14:00) - Villans of old

Was the Villans' heavy defeat to Spurs last week an aberration, a departure from the norm that can be put down to fatigue? Certainly they were passive throughout, after securing a draw at Ajax just three days earlier.

Additionally, a switch to three at the back for the first time this season clearly wasn't to their liking, and that won't be replicated anytime soon.

Returning to their usual 4-2-2-2, we can expect something more like the Villa of old this Sunday, as they take on a Hammers side that has conceded first in six of their last seven outings.

John McGinn will be a big miss, but even minus their tenacious midfielder, Unai Emery's team are blessed with threats aplenty, not least in the form of Ollie Watkins, who has scored a brace apiece in his last two away games.

The 16-goal striker is averaging 3.1 shots per 90 this season and when these sides met in October he scored and assisted. The 28-year-old will feel like he's got West Ham's number.

He won't be alone either. Douglas Luiz ran the show in the corresponding fixture, scoring twice and picking up the Man of the Match award. Leon Bailey, meanwhile, is averaging 1.5 successful dribbles per game.

You fear for a rearguard that has shipped in 16 in six.

Back Watkins to have 2+ shots on target @ 7/52.40
