After a brief break for the FA Cup, the Premier League is back with some blockbuster clashes this weekend. Jake Osgathorpe is here to provides his xG Hot and Cold tips...

HOT trends?

Gunners are firing

Premier League leaders Arsenal - yes, I'm still getting used to that - look an appealing price at Tottenham on Sunday, backable at 2.26 on the Exchange.

Put simply, they are a better team than Spurs, and they have found a level of performance away from home that we haven't witnessed for some time.

The Gunners have averaged 1.79 xGF and 0.96 xGA per away game, with that latter figure the best in the league.

That's an xGD per away game of +0.83. Just to highlight their remarkable improvement, last season their xGD per away game was -0.39.

Spurs have struggled greatly to create chances post-break, averaging 1.05 xGF per game across matches against Brentford, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, while Antonio Conte's side have kept just five clean sheets in 18 league games.

Arsenal should prove too strong for their hosts, who will likely still be missing a few key players.

United looking tight

Here's one for you. Since Manchester City thwacked Manchester United 6-3, the latter have actually collected more points per game.

Not only that, but United have performed better defensively than their neighbours since the beating, shipping just 0.95 xGA per game, which gives me confidence that we won't see them hit for anywhere near six again.

Erik ten Hag's sides attacking process is on the up too, but their calling card across their impressive run of form has been defensive solidity, so we can expect them to lean on that in this second meeting.

If that is the case, Under 2.5 Goals looks a good in here at an excellent price of around 2.35/4.

City are the second best defensive team when playing away from home (0.99 xGA per game), and perhaps surprisingly, Under 2.5 Goals has landed in 62% of City's away league games this season.

All of the last four head-to-heads at Old Trafford have also gone under, with games at the Theatre of Dreams seemingly more control rather than the chaos we see at the Etihad.

COLD trends?

Ropey Reds

We all know by now that Liverpool can't defend.

However, the problem is worse than many of you think.

Jurgen Klopp's side have allowed 1.69 xGA per game which ranks as the sixth worst defensive process in the Premier League.

It get's much worst when they travel too, with the xGA per game rising to a whopping 1.99!

For context, that is the worst road defensive process Infogol has seen from a Liverpool team since data collection begain in 2014. The previous worst was 1.35 in 17/18...

Not good news as they head to a rampant Brighton side who are playing some of the best and slickest attacking football in the land currently.

They have averaged 1.67 xGF per game since Roberto De Zerbi took charge, but as is the De Zerbi way, they are vulnerable defensively (1.57 xGA per game), making for chaos and entertainment.

Over 3.0 Goals appeals at 1.97 on the Exchange then with these two excellent attacking sides with weak defences going head-to-head.

This bet hasn't lost in Liverpool's last six, paying out as a winner in three, while it has also would have paid out in six of Brighton's last seven with the other game a push.

Foxes falling

It's been a poor restart for Leicester. They have lost all three league games, with their defensive issues again rearing their ugly head.

Across those three games, the Foxes have shipped 2.12 xGA per game, so the mini up-turn we saw pre-break looks to have passed.

In the eight games prior to the World Cup, Brendan Rodgers allowed just 1.23 xGA per game, but the early signs post-break are that we are back to their early-season form (1.85 xGA per game first seven).

Away from home they rank as the thrid worst defensive team in the league (2.06 xGA per game), which will be positive news for Nottingham Forest.

The Tricky Trees are unbeaten in five home league games, against decent opposition too.

They have averaged 1.39 xGF and 1.42 xGA per game in that stretch so are more than capable of getting a result against a vulnerable defensive side, so Nottingham Forest +0 on the Asian Handicap makes a lot of sense.
