Ste is predicting early drama at the Bridge, little drama at Anfield

Ste Tudor finds early betting angles for this weekend's games, two opposing troubled teams and backing goals at the Riverside and the Bridge.

Crystal Palace v Man City - Semenyo to break the deadlock

City won both of their encounters with Palace last term 3-0 and a similarly comprehensive win is hardly out of the question here, given how oddly passive the Eagles were at Goodison last weekend.

It didn't help their cause that their three best players - Munoz, Wharton and Mateta - all looked out-of-sorts.
City were hardly imperious themselves, needing late drama to secure a first win under Enzo Maresca, but unquestionably they were a step up from their woeful Community Shield display and in Erling Haaland they possess a striker who has scored eight times in six in this fixture.

He is 7/24.50 to score two or more at Selhurst Park.

It's Antoine Semenyo who offers the best value though, the winger opening the scoring at Selhurst Pask last season. Indeed, six of his last seven goals for City have broken deadlocks.

Wrexham v Birmingham - Reds summer signing to score

This exact fixture last term finished 1-1, the same scoreline Wrexham have mustered twice to date in 2026/27. Brum too have drawn both their league commitments.

The 12/53.40 available for a draw at the Racecourse will be a popular bet this week.

A sharing of the points aside, Daniel Imray's immediate impact for the Dragons is worth noting, the right wing-back assisting and scoring in his first two outings. Birmingham were carved open time and again down their left flank last weekend vs Bristol City and the 23-year-old could well capitalise.

Liverpool v Nottingham Forest - 14/1 Anfield Bet Builder

Cody Gakpo was the best player in red last weekend in the North-East and the Dutch attacker has form for starting seasons strongly. Last time out, he began with three goals involvements in two and the 27-year-old should be backed to add to his belting goal against Newcastle. All told, he took on six shots, the most of any player across the Premier League's opening weekend.

Forest may have won for two seasons running at Anfield but they underwhelmed last Saturday, registering just one shot on target from open play. They came off second-best in the ground duels too, a clear sign that they're missing Elliott Anderson.

The hosts to win to nil at 17/102.70 is a decent shout but the builder below offers up greater scope in a game that may not feature many goals.

Five of their last nine encounters have finished 1-0 to either side.

Middlesbrough v West Brom - Goals galore at the Riverside

A terrestrial TV treat awaits in the North-East with both of Boro's games so far producing 2.5+ goals, and the Baggies likewise.

Last season, Boro shaded it 2-1 at home and then four months later emerged victorious from a five-goal thriller at the Hawthorns.

In short, there should be goals, especially with Kim Hellberg's side racking up a league-high 45 shots already and the Baggie's summer signing Jimmy-Jay Morgan taking to Championship life like a duck to water.

The 20-year-old Chelsea academy star has registered five goal involvements in three starts and is a name worth remembering.

MK Dons v Leicester - Foxes again in crisis

Excuses can be made for Leicester's poor start. It takes a while to acclimatise to League One. There has been a big squad overhaul twice-over in recent seasons. And there is a new manager through the door, one who preaches a brand of football some players don't take to.

Nothing detracts however from how poor the Foxes were last weekend, and how bumpy their journey has been to date.

MK Dons have taken on a league-high 39 shots in their opening two outings while Leicester have registered the second fewest shots on target. Additionally, Russell Martin's side are short of options at the back.

Aarons Collins is a shout to convert for the hosts, the striker bagging two in two, but this is all about taking advantage of great odds to oppose a club who could again be in the mire.

Tottenham v Newcastle - Another tough 90 for De Zerbi

Almost to a man Spurs were shocking at the Gtech, their midfield in particular disjointed and wasteful in possession. Sandro Tonali alone lost possession on ten occasions and if Roberto De Zerbi's expensively-assembled side give the ball away so cheaply again here, another punishing 90 minutes awaits.

That's because Newcastle were surprisingly and impressively vibrant in their opener against Liverpool, just seconds away from securing a victory after laying traps all afternoon, then exploding into life, with Anthony Elanga especially penetrating.

But for a missed penalty, Tottenham would have lost by four last Saturday. They will surely improve but to what degree?

Chelsea v Brighton - Quick starters at the Bridge

Both teams were full of brio from the off on the opening weekend, each taking an early lead - in Chelsea's case, a very early lead - and quickly staking a claim as a team to watch this term.

Inspired by a sumptuous Cole Palmer performance, Chelsea took on 13 of their 18 shots in the first period, scoring twice.

Brighton went two better, demolishing Aston Villa in a first-half blitzkrieg so comprehensive a boxing ref would have ended the contest half an hour in.

It would be remiss therefore not to go with early goals at the Bridge. Strap yourselves in...
