"Ole Gunnar Solskjær is clearly getting the best out of the World Cup winner and his scoring run has every chance of continuing at St James’ Park."
It's the final FPL gameweek before a well earned rest for the FA Cup and with fantasy managers having their second wildcard available, Paul Robinson has selected his best and worst options.
Six to like
Paul Pogba - £8.2m. I have featured Paul Pogba in this column for two of the last three gameweeks and he's delivered with 13 points and 18 points. In between times he picked up a 15 point haul and he absolutely has to top the six to like now. Ole Gunnar Solskjær is clearly getting the best out of the World Cup winner and his scoring run has every chance of continuing at St James' Park.
Pogba looks is a very tasty 15/8 to score against Newcastle.
Alexandre Lacazette - £9.4m. Probably not the most popular choice here as his strike partner has outscored him and had more minutes than him, but Alexandre Lacazette will surely start against Fulham. The Cottagers have tightened up at the back of late, but the Gunners will be looking to make a statement following their 5-1 defeat at Anfield, and Lacazette is good for both goals and assists.
Eden Hazard - £11.1m. The Chelsea man could only muster three points against Crystal Palace on Sunday, but I won't be giving up on him yet, and the Blues are taking on Southampton at the Bridge this week. Hazard has 10 goals and nine assists to his name this season and the Saints have conceded five times over the course of their last two outings - both of which were at home. They could be vulnerable here.
Matt Doherty - £5.2m. Wolves stunned Spurs at Wembley on Saturday and they will surely follow up against Crystal Palace at Molineux. Football can be a funny old game, so while nothing is guaranteed, the good thing about Doherty is that he has clean sheet potential and a chance to add to his three goals and four assists he's delivered from full-back this term.
The Wolves defender is 11/1 to open the scoring against Crystal Palace.
Felipe Anderson - £7.4m. Another weekend flop who retains his place in the six to like is Felipe Anderson. I'm willing to forgive him his two pointer at Burnley as he's delivered double digit returns in three of the previous six weeks. West Ham take on Brighton at the London Stadium and the Seagulls are notoriously poor travellers.
James Tarkowski - 4.7m. Dropping Joe Hart seemed to work the oracle for Burnley against the Hammers as they beat them 2-0 on Sunday, and I'm keen to take a chance on a Burnley defender this week as they are playing Huddersfield. The Terriers have mustered just four home goals this season, and Tarkowski is a goal threat too - three to his name this year.
A Burnley clean sheet is 12/5 in this match.
The Punt
Andy Carroll - 5.4m. This is a real punt as Andy Carroll has barely featured this season for West Ham. He's working his way back from injury though and he got 45 minutes under his belt at Turf Moor. He could be in line for a starting berth against Brighton though, and he will relish the battle up against their centre half pairing.
He's Due
Álvaro Morata - £8.4m. News of Olivier Giroud's injury means that Morata is more likely to start than not, as I'm not convinced that Sarri will play Hazard as a false nine against Southampton at home. The former Real Madrid man hasn't scored since gameweek 11, however it is worth noting that he has missed four complete weeks through injury. He was back on Sunday to come off the bench for 14 minutes, and if he starts, he could get his first goal in quite a while.
Morata can be backed at 9/2 to score two or more against Southampton.
Two to avoid
Raheem Sterling - £11.3m. I've had my fingers burnt by Raheem Sterling plenty of times this year, so it really wouldn't surprise me if he scored lots of points now that I have put him in the two to avoid. City are at home to Liverpool, and the winger hasn't really delivered much when facing his former club. He popped up with an assist against Southampton, but it's just the one goal since GW14 now, and Liverpool are in rampant form.
Kieran Trippier - £6.1m. Spurs are away at Cardiff on New Year's Day, with the hosts having scored in seven of their nine home matches since their promotion. That includes a goal against a rejuvenated, Manchester United, last time, and while the Bluebirds will be buoyed by their victory at Leicester on Saturday, Tottenham need to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat against Wolves.
If you think I'm wrong, a Spurs clean sheet is 11/10.
Captain's pick
Mohamed Salah - £13.3m. Giving the armband to a player who is playing away at Man City is quite a bold move, but this is no ordinary player. Salah is the top points scorer in the game and he and Liverpool are looking at their brilliant best. Obviously City are a great side, but their strength lies in attack and midfield, and their defence looks extremely vulnerable. The Egyptian could easily be involved in a couple of goals here.
Mohamed Salah is 11/2 to strike the first blow against Man City.
