Everton’s new manager faces a tough challenge.

“Monday’s defeat at Newcastle was a dispiriting experience for Everton fans, and it underlined just how much spadework lies ahead of Frank Lampard and his coaching staff if they are to shore up the foundations ahead of yet another summer rebuild.”

Pandora Hughes has lined up another weekend multiple and she's banking on Leeds earning a point from their Saturday trip to Goodison Park.

Bet 1: Back Everton to draw with Leeds at 13/5

Monday's defeat at Newcastle was a dispiriting experience for Everton fans, and it underlined just how much spadework lies ahead of Frank Lampard and his coaching staff if they are to shore up the foundations ahead of yet another summer rebuild.

The Toffees last won a Premier League game in December, against Arsenal, and however confidently some Everton fans talk about their Game In Hand, with both Newcastle and Norwich staging revivals, the situation is perilous.

Still, they have been more effective, or at least, less ineffective, at home than on the road and they have a realistic chance of a point on Saturday. Leeds have upped their game in 2022 but they are still leaking goals, and I'm expecting a scrappy, but entertaining draw here.

Bet 2: Back Hitman to win the Game Spirit at 2/1

There's a fascinating renewal of one of the top chasing contests on Newbury's Saturday card in which Hitman looks a good bet.

Sceau Royal has the highest official rating of the five entries and it will be interesting to see how he fares back over fences, but his career suggests that he is just short of the very top class chasers in the two-mile division, while Editeur de Gite and Sky Pirate have not shown the sort of form needed to compete at this level.

Funambule Sivola is an interesting contender but hasn't yet built on his second to Shishkin at Aintree last spring and doesn't have the potential of Hitman. Paul Nicholls' six-year-old was second in the Haldon Gold Cup and the Tingle Creek and with more improvement to come, is the best bet here.

Bet 3: Back Watford to draw with Brighton at 9/4

Watford earned a welcome point against Burnley in Roy Hodgson's first game in charge and were not discredited in losing 1-0 at West Ham in midweek, though both games underlined that the Hodgson path to safety will not be an enjoyable one.

Hornets fans won't care about that, and nor should they. At this point, results are all that matter and if wins are not forthcoming, then draws will do. But it doesn't bode well for those looking for entertainment at Vicarage Road this weekend when Watford host the sleepy Seagulls in the football equivalent of a Coldplay gig.

Graham Potter's side have scored 23 times in 22 games and are accumulating an impressive tally of draws - 12 so far, putting them on course for the Premier League record of 18. If you're watching this one in full, a good book and a comfy pillow might be advisable, but you can gain some compensation by backing the draw.
