EFL Weekend Tips: Back NTT20's 20/1 Four-Fold Acca

Joey Barton Bristol Rovers Manager
Joey Barton has turned Bristol Rovers into a contender

EFL experts Ali Maxwell and George Elek from Not The Top 20 Podcast have their sights set on a four-fold across the EFL this weekend.

  • Wagner to start strongly at Norwich City

  • Hull look good to make it three on the bounce

  • Two League One selections make up the four-fold

Hull City v Huddersfield Town

Liam Rosenior has made an impressive start to life in the Hull City dugout, making very tangible improvements in terms of results and performances - five unbeaten since the Championship restarted post World Cup, with comfortable back to back wins against Birmingham and Wigan.

Because of the poor start to the season, it is easy to forget that The Tigers have some quality individual players, particularly Jean Seri who can control games like this in midfield. Rosenior is starting to get them to play to their true level.

Huddersfield Town had a good Christmas, with back to back wins. The Terriers still need another strong performance and victory to prove that they are capable of rising above the relegation zone, but Hull should be too strong.

Preston North End v Norwich City

David Wagner is the new Manager at Norwich City and, while the response from fans has been mixed, Wagner has the personality and intelligence to make a good first impression with his squad, much needed after the Dean Smith era dragged on.

This is a great chance for a chance in atmosphere and an injection of positive energy to galvanise the team and the fanbase. It won't take much to get Norwich City back on track, despite a poor first half of season.

They travel to a Preston side with a poor home record. They've one scored 8 goals in 13 home games, and 13 points is the 4th worst home return in the league, and North End have lost their last three at Deepdale.

Something about their style or personnel doesn't work at Deepdale. With key man Emil Riis injured, they are looking light up top, and have fitness questions over other key men Evans and Whiteman.

Bolton Wanderers v Portsmouth

Bolton were the better side against league leaders Plymouth Argyle, but couldn't find the finishing touch, drawing 0-0. They are an imposing side at the UniBol, pressing with great intensity and attacking with style. They are team in rhythm, playing with confidence instilled by Ian Evatt, who is the perfect manager for the club.

These two sides met on Tuesday night in the Papa John's Trophy, with Bolton winning 1-0. It seems suboptimal for a Portsmouth side without a permanent manager to have to travel to Bolton twice in the space of four days, and could affect preparation.

With an appointment not having been made by Friday morning, there's a sense of the team being in limbo. Since Tuesday, Portsmouth have had loanees Griffiths and Koroma recalled, further weakening the squad.

Pompey are yet to prove that the departure of the Cowleys will see them get back to play-off contending level. Bolton are a team playing and competing at that level, and should get the job done here.

Accrington v Bristol Rovers

Accrington have lost 8 of their last 12 in the league, and are winless in 5 at home with 2 draws and 3 defeats. Having punched above their weight for so long at this level, they find themselves in the relegation zone and in a relegation battle for the first time.

For a team that's conceded more than two goals a game in the last 12 league matches, the arrival of Bristol Rovers is not ideal - the Gas are the joint top scorers in the division in that time with 20 goals in their last 12.

Aaron Collins and Josh Coburn are the most feared attacking duo in the division - Coburn has scored in four straight, and Collins has two goals and three assists in the last four games.

Rovers have played four of the current bottom 10 teams away from home, and have beaten them all, proving that they are a cut above the sides in the bottom half.
