League One
Leyton Orient's rise up the table has been nothing short of sensational - and they are now in 8th, although they do have a bit of ground to make up on Stevenage.
They scored a last minute winner on Tuesday in beating Northampton 4-3, and Richie Wellens' team deserved that with a few goals, as they really ought to have put away a few teams of late.
The Londoners last failed to score in a game back in December, and while they are odds-on at 8/151.53, they have only lost once this year - and that was to Barnsley in the last minute.
KEY OPTA STAT: Burton Albion have failed to win any of their last four away league games against sides from Greater London (D2 L2) since a 1-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon in March 2021.
Portsmouth are a similar price to Orient at 4/91.44 in the 90 minutes market, and hopefully there will no scares as they seem to be over their Christmas wobble.
Indeed, Pompey have won all three of their recent games and are back in their top of the table groove, plus their home form has always been constant this term at Fratton with 10 wins and just 17 conceded.
Reading have lost just one of their last eight away league games (W2 D5), having lost 17 of the prior 18 (D1), so they've improved and recently caused a shock at Stevenage, but Pompey have recently hammered Cambridge and Northampton scoring three and four.
KEY OPTA STAT: Reading have won just two of their 21 away Football League games against Portsmouth (D7 L12), conceding 15 times across their last five visits to Fratton Park.
Gone are the days of backing Charlton to get a result, and it's staggering to think they haven't won a game since late November. Nathan Jones is a good appointment, but I worry about the club and whether Jones can turn it around the malaise - that has been deep rooted for a while.
A friend of mine saw them in the 1-1 with Lincoln recently and they were dreadful in the first-half apparently.
Bolton have won 11 this season on their home patch and don't concede many either, and the Addicks have won just one of their last 11 away league games against Bolton Wanderers (D5 L5), since a 2-1 win in the Premier League in August 2002.
KEY OPTA STAT: Charlton Athletic have won just one of their last 16 away league games (D8 L7), conceding 2+ goals in four of their last five such matches.
League Two
A huge game in League Two, although a few months ago this could have been considered a title decider even back then.
County have lost the plot in terms of defending, and while they are clearly missing their manager who departed for different pastures, their defending has always been their Achilles' heel.
They've conceded 35 on the road, and that won't be winning you anything. And with Wrexham scoring a massive 43 at the Racecourse, I was surprised the Over 2.5 Goals isn't bigger than the 8/151.53 on offer. With their 3-1 away win against Newport County last time out, Notts County ended their seven-match winless run on the road in League Two (D1 L6). Indeed, they could win successive away games in the Football League for the first time since March 2019.
KEY OPTA STAT: Notts County's last away game against Wrexham was in the National League last season - they went 1-0 up before losing 3-2, with Ben Foster saving a 90th minute penalty for the Welsh side.
Salford let the column down on Tuesday with a 2-2 home draw against Doncaster, but they remain unbeaten in seven and I am backing them again to gain a result this Saturday.
The draw did come into consideration with Salford's five stalemates at home this term, but they do need to win games with their current position and Barrow are in nowhere near the same form as they were at the start of the season - with just one win in their last six.
After winning five consecutive away league games between October and December 2023, Barrow have now failed to win any of their last four such matches (D2 L2), conceding nine goals in the process.
KEY OPTA STAT: Salford City are unbeaten across their last three home league games (W1 D2) and will be looking to go four matches without suffering defeat at the Peninsula Stadium for the first time this season.
Grimsby Town have failed to win any of their last five home league games (D1 L4); the Mariners last endured a longer winless run at Blundell Park between March and April 2021 (6 matches), which is hardly an ideal starting point for a 90 minutes bet at 5/61.84.
But Doncaster have won just two away all season and hardly ever back up a good performance and result with another. Indeed, from October onwards, they haven't backed up with a win and struggled recently in a 1-1 at Sutton.
Doncaster Rovers have won both of their last two away Football League games against Grimsby Town, as many as in their prior 15 such matches at Blundell Park since 1904 (D4 L9).
KEY OPTA STAT: Doncaster Rovers' Billy Waters have scored three goals in five Football League games against Grimsby Town, with each of those goals coming for a different team (Cheltenham, Cambridge & Barrow). This will be the first time he's faced the Mariners as a Rovers player.
