Can Nigel Adkins' Charlton make the play-offs?

Alan Dudman is back for the final round of League One matches and is siding with Charlton to keep alive their slim chances of making the play-offs...

Addicks to round off campaign with a win

Charlton Athletic v Hull City
Sunday 9th May, kick-off 12:00

With Hull crowned as champions of League One, it's no surprise to see them trade as an outsider here at 3.1511/5 - probably the biggest price they have been all season.

And if you need anymore back-up to oppose them for Sunday, the damning Opta stat for their final league match of the season reads one win from their last 16 matches.

That means Charlton look a good bet at 2.3211/8. They have everything to play for as they chase the final play-off spot, but they need Portsmouth and Oxford to slip up, especially as they have a goal difference that is against them.

But we treat this as a one-off. It's a good sign too that the Addicks have won their previous two home matches as their away form has kept them in the hunt. They were very good against Lincoln on Tuesday night winning 3-1.

Nigel Adkins thought it was a tremendous second-half display, and the work-rate was second-to-none with players like Jayden Stockley chasing down balls in the final minute.

KEY OPTA STAT: Charlton have won their last two home games that were the final league match of a season (in 2017 and 2019), scoring seven and not conceding.

Posh bogey team to cause problems again

Doncaster Rovers v Peterborough United
Sunday 9th May, kick-off 12:00

While I don't doubt Peterborough will be well prepared for this, celebrations outside London Road last week following their last-gasp penalty from Johnson Clarke-Harris means this game won't be top priority as their job is done.

Incidentally, that 96th minute equaliser was a blow to the Lincoln win bet, but the forward has scored 33 in 49 and yet again highlights the brilliant recruitment of Posh in finding a striker who scores. It's not easy, and they'll have to fight to keep him as West Brom have been linked.

Doncaster have been a major disappointment this term, and it's all gone a bit pear-shaped since Darren Moore left the club.

However, they are something of a bogey team for Peterborough, and remain unbeaten against their old foes.

We have to overlook their miserable home form at the Keepmoat, but there's no pressure here, and Posh could still be in party mode after last week's heroics.

KEY OPTA STAT: Doncaster have won their last two final league matches of a season, beating Coventry in 2019 and MK Dons in 2020 without conceding. The Rovers have never won their final league match of a campaign in three consecutive seasons in the Football League.

Town's goal worries to come to the fore again

Ipswich Town v Fleetwood Town
Sunday 9th May, kick-off 12:00

If it's no excitement and lack of goals you wish to seek out, Ipswich are the ones for you. Backers of the Under 2.5 Goals bet have been cleaning up of late, with the layers taking no risks in a run where Paul Cook's team have scored in just one of their last eight games.

It was two goals on that occasion, a luxury, that came against Swindon, but the problems have not gone away.

Ipswich's record of scoring 22 this season at Portman Road is the second-lowest in the league. Unfortunately the 2.5 price of for under is at 1.51/2.

I'm a little surprised at the odds of Fleetwood at 2.942/1, as they have been playing reasonably well away from home, and just need to produce two consistent halves of football rather than play well in 45 minutes. Their price is probably influenced by the thrashing they received at the hands of Burton recently on their travels. Although the Brewers have been collecting points for some time now.

They were undone by some superb goals too.

I think we can utilise the Bet Builder for the two short prices. Fleetwood Double Chance at 1/2 and Under 2.5 at 4/7 pays 2.13.
