Eight vying for two
The race for a Championship play-off spot refuses to let up with eight clubs heading into the penultimate weekend of the season knowing they still have a shot at promotion.
Two of those sides face off on Saturday evening with West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City, who enter the day in 9th and 11th, knowing victory will give them an opportunity on the final day while defeat ends their promotion hopes.
The appointment of ex-Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan helped catapult Saturday's hosts from a possible relegation scrap into the promotion race but form has stuttered recently with six wins and defeats apiece since the start of February.
Norwich City have also changed boss, Dean Smith ousted for another ex-Terries boss in David Wagner, who won promotion in his only play-off campaign. He has had less success than the Spaniard yet two wins from their remaining two matches could be enough to earn a top six finish.
Defensive issues make Norwich vulnerable
A curious statistic coming into this game is that the home side has not won any of the last seven meetings between these teams. I'm backing West Bromwich Albion to end that run here.
The Baggies are winless in their last three at The Hawthorns, failing to break down a stubborn Millwall side before letting leads slip against Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland. However, they have won nine of their 14 home games under Corberan.
Norwich come into this game having won just one of their last nine and are missing a number of key personnel - Grant Hanley, Ben Gibson, Dimitris Giannoulis and Kenny McLean remain absent while back-up left-back Sam McCallum was red carded last time out.
Those injuries are causing problems for the Canaries, hampering their ability to play out from the back and leaving them susceptible against good sides - they have conceded five against Middlesbrough and three against Swansea City in their last four outings.
Karlan Grant-ed an opportunity
Norwich's defensive issues provide an excellent opportunity for West Brom's forwards to get on the scoresheet.
Individual errors have been a regular theme of Norwich's game and they will line up without an experienced leader in the defensive area of the pitch - 20-year-old Andrew Omobamidele has worn the captain's armband recently, partnered by Jakob Sorensen, who is a central midfielder by trade.
West Brom will be looking to exploit that with a structured but high-tempo performance. They have scored the first goal in 12 of their last 13 home matches and should create chances through the high turnover - no side has had more shot ending high turnovers in the Championship this season.
Karlan Grant is a prime candidate to get on the scoresheet. The ex-Charlton Athletic forward has been given an opportunity thanks to injuries and has taken 12 shots in his last five matches, having a shot on target in each of his four starts.
