There's nothing like Good Friday football so Andy Robson has a trio of bets from matches taking place then in this week's three-fold which culminates with promotion-chasing Leeds' trip to Watford...
-
PNE backed to exploit Rotherham's defence
-
Posh to get revenge against Carlisle
-
Leeds promotion push to continue at Watford
-
The EFL is the place to be for a Good Friday treble and I have found three value favourites to side with in different ways to produce odds just under 5/16.00.
Leg 1: Preston North End v Rotherham, Championship, Friday 15:00
Tip: PNE to win + Over 1.5 goals (1.83)
It could be the case that Leam Richardson has had a really fruitful international break and been able to galvanise his squad to believe that, either, survival in the Championship is a real possibility, or that there is real motivation to win the last few games of the season.
Whatever the truth, something fairly drastic has to change for this nap selection not to win. Rotherham come into this away game having suffered back-to-back 5-0 away defeats. This adds to a whole season of woe when travelling, the Millers have won only four points away, with no wins.
Preston aren't the Championship's most reliable home team, but they do have recent home wins over Bristol City, Middlesbrough, and Ipswich, all of which went over the 1.5 goal line, as well as a 2-2 draw with Blackburn in which they dominated the xG count.
North End also have motivation to end the season strongly. They are in the hunt for the final play-off place, and surely this match is ringed on the calendar as a potential three points.
Rotherham's last 10 away games have averaged an xG differential of -1.6. This means that they are giving up 1.6 expected goals worth of shooting opportunities more than their opposition. If Preston can take advantage of this, and their finishing has been above average all season, then they should be able to win this match and score a couple of goals.
This bet would've landed in each of Rotherham's last five away games, and a massive 15 out of 19 in total this season. Whenever Rotherham have lost away from home, the match has had two goals or more.
Leg 2: Peterborough United v Carlisle United, League 1, Friday 15:00
Tip: Peterborough United (-1) Handicap (1.73)
This looks like a massive mismatch, with a side chasing promotion up against an opponent that is last in the table and heading for certain relegation.
Peterborough come into this game in excellent form. Although they were beaten last weekend by top-of-the-table Portsmouth, they had picked up six successive victories before that loss. Indeed, their previous three matches were all won by more than a single goal, including a thumping home victory over Northampton. Seventh-placed Stevenage were also seen off 3-1.
Carlisle are unlikely to prove as difficult a challenge as those previous games. After all, they have suffered 12 defeats in their last 14 matches. The exceptions were an away win against relegation-fighting Burton and a home draw with Stevenage last weekend.
Defensively, Carlisle are conceding goals freely. They have conceded at least two in five of their last seven matches, which does not bode well given that they are visiting the most prolific team in the league.
Peterborough also have the advantage of having had nearly two full weeks to prepare for this match, having not been in action last week.
When these sides met earlier this season, the match finished 1-1, with Carlisle scoring a dramatic late equaliser. That was, however, their only shot on target in the whole match.
Expect Peterborough to take some revenge in this game with a comfortable home victory.
Leg 3: Watford v Leeds, Championship, Friday 20:00
Tip: Leeds to win + Over 1.5 goals (1.83)
Watford currently find themselves in mid-table in the Championship and the sacking of Valerien Ismael has left the hosts without a permanent manager, with the inexperienced Tom Cleverley taking charge on an interim basis.
The hosts have shown some promise on the road but have the third worst home record in the league. It is worth noting that a minimum of two goals have been scored in 11 of Watford's last 12 home games.
Leeds are well involved in the Championship title race, currently top of the table with eight matches to go.

A key contributor to Leeds' success has been their impressive away form, particularly in 2024. Leeds are unbeaten on the road this year, winning five of their six away outings. A minimum of two goals have been scored in eight of Leeds' last 11 away trips.
Leeds are rightly favourites here, and everything points towards the hosts picking up all three points with the net bulging at least two times in the process.
