It was a positive start for the Premier League's five Champions League hopefuls with Liverpool the only side not to win. Graeme gives us his verdict on the quintet's opening fixtures.
Excellent Tottenham finally slay their Wembley demons
Phil Neville got a few headlines on Wednesday night when he suggested that Harry Kane might have to leave Tottenham before he can be considered a 'world class' striker. The obvious response to that is that the statistics contradict what Phil said. Harry has scored enough goals to win the Premier League Golden Boot two years in a row. Is that not world class?
The problem really is defining what that term means - do you have to be the best player in the world in your particular position for instance? If he kept doing this for Spurs and England year-in, year-out would that make him world class?
Phil suggests that Tottenham are merely a top four team, and that moving to one of the giants could elevate him to world class.
Spurs have just come up short in the last two seasons and they are the 13.012/1 fourth favourites to win the title for a reason. I think those odds are a genuine reflection of their chances of overhauling Chelsea, Manchester City and United.
The big question for Spurs is are they going to be able to compete with those teams around them? They don't spend the same amount of money as Chelsea or the Manchester clubs, and keeping hold of players is going to be vital. In order to keep players of the standard of Kane they have to invest.
But on the bright side, Spurs are in an incredible cycle right now. It really is an exciting time for Tottenham and the fanbase. You cannot underestimate the value of training at those incredible facilities and the new stadium where they will play from next season.
There has been a bit of an issue with the depth of the squad in recent years, and I still think they are slightly thin, but the new signings at the back - Davinson Sanchez and Serge Aurier - impressed on Wednesday night, fitting in straightaway and they are unquestionably a stronger side now than in the last two seasons.
Nothing but positives as Manchester United march on
A very comfortable night for United which was full of positives. They dominated all areas of the pitch and both Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford scored again. It's now 32 games unbeaten at Old Trafford.
Chelsea send a signal to Europe
Chelsea wanted to send a message that they mean business and they did just that. They made a fast start and had the game won after 30 minutes. It's a major positive for Antonio Conte that so many new arrivals and bench players scored. And an added bonus was the draw between Roma and Atletico which gives the Blues real breathing space in a tough group.
Stats show Liverpool must get sharper
The one English side not to win, but they have more than enough quality to get out of the group. Goals for Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah show they're continuing good early season form but could Liverpool be more clinical in front of goal? They had an incredible 24 shots but scored just two goals. That compares unfavourably with Tottenham (three goals from 13 shots) and City (four from 11).
Manchester City continue fine early form
An opening fixture at Feyenoord looked tricky on paper, but City absolutely dominated the game. To achieve 72% possession away from home is really impressive. That's a good sign of a team that knows what it's doing.
City my selection to go furthest of the five
I think it's just about safe to say that all the English sides will get out of their groups in this year's Champions League. We have only seen one game of course, but putting together everything we have seen at home and in Europe so far, Manchester City would be my pick to go deepest in the competition. They were my pre-season title fancy and the way they played against Feyenoord suggests they can go closest of the Premier League's five Champions League hopefuls, too.
And given the strength in depth of the English quintet I think the least we should hope for this year is a semi-finalist, but hopefully it'll be much better than that.
