I was surprised Atkinson didn't know about curfew because I did

Michael Vaughan: The England side won a great Test match, finishing at half past one on the Sunday afternoon. They clearly went out and celebrated, which is right. But a few months ago, and you read into what Rob Key said in his press conference, they worked on the culture around the England team.

I was a bit surprised when I heard that Gus Atkinson didn't know about the curfew. I knew about the curfew.

Stories say a few of them went out. I think it was a Saracens end of season day out and they probably bumped into them and went into two or three pubs.

I read that there were seven out and five suddenly realised they had a curfew and had to go back. Five knew they had to get out of there. Clearly two, the captain being one, decided to carry on.

ECB handled Stokes and Atkinson incident well

Michael Vaughan: I target the ECB sometimes with the way they operate. The way they dealt with the Harry Brook situation, I thought, was poor. They brushed it under the carpet because they desperately needed Harry for the Ashes and didn't want to expose what had happened before the series.

But I actually think this week they've dealt with this really well. They've got it out there into the public domain quickly. I don't think it will have been easy for Rob Key to deal with this because he's been working with Ben for three or four months on this protocol of making sure the culture is a little bit better.  I do think they had to suspend him.

Stokes has done so much for English cricket; he screwed up, he knows that. We all know he screwed up and it's a terrible look for the team when the captain breaks the protocol. But there's something in me that just wonders whether the ECB have kind of gone, 'OK, is it time to move Ben Stokes out of the way?'

I hope not. If there's someone that's earned the right to come back as the captain of this team, it's Ben Stokes.

England must be careful

Alastair Cook: Cricket and rugby teams are very accessible to the public. If they're in a pub, the public can always come up to England cricketers.

That relationship is really important. Just like Saturday club cricket, you play your game and you're going to have a few beers. I know it's not professional but that's the culture. It's a social culture, and the last thing I'd ever want is for any England cricket team in the future not to do that.

I handed Emilio Gay his cap. I can't actually remember exactly what I said, but I told him,:'You're going to have so many experiences that this cap gives you. Some of it's on the field, and a lot of it's off the field as well.'

Some of the greatest memories I've got from playing are from winning and losing games off the field. If that was totally taken away from your experience of playing for England, it would absolutely change it. I think we've got to be really careful about this incident now.
