The Indian Premier League (IPL) broke records on Betfair in 2023 and the 17th edition could be even bigger as cricket punters flock to wager on a Twenty20 tournament that may be the biggest cricket event of the year.
Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions but the Mumbai Indians are the pre-tournament favourites on the Betfair Exchange.
We will preview every match on Betting.Betfair but, before a ball has been bowled, here's what our experts' make of the teams and the betting markets on the eve of the IPL 2024.
Ed Hawkins: "There are no elite players in the Gujarat possible starting XI, even if Rashid Khan is very close. There's none on the bench, either. If Kane Williamson, who performs below the mean, is picked they could find fast runs hard to come by. Last term it was perhaps a blessing that the Kiwi was ruled out with injury.
"The loss of Hardik Pandya (MI) and Mohammad Shami (injury) are terrible blows. It will be interesting to see if Spencer Johnson can buck the trend of Aussie pacers struggling. Around 2.00 to lay that they don't make the top four is a bet."
Cricket...Only Bettor: Ultimate betting guide to IPL Part 1
Ed Hawkins, Paul Krishnamurty and Richard Mann are on hand for the unbeatable betting guide to the biggest cricket betting event of the year - the IPL. They have team analysis for the bottom 5 in the betting, the players to bet (and to avoid), strategies and the all-important ground guide. Find out who they think finishes bottom of the pile.
Ed Hawkins: "There could be value lower down the betting lists if one is required to take a punt on a quixotic talent. Punjab's Prab Singh has close to elite numbers on strike rate and average and should open on a good batting wicket in Chandigarh.
"Singh smashed 103 off 65 balls against Delhi last season in what was a breakthrough innings. He could go from strength to strength and at 100/1 is a suggested each-way play (1/4 the odds the first four).
"A better wager is the standout 10/1 that he tops for his team. He has very little to beat with Shikhar Dhawan taking a back seat to his thrusting. Given that we would have him favourite on that market it may be the only batting bet that is required."
Cricket...Only Bettor: Ultimate betting guide to IPL Part 2
Ed Hawkins, Paul Krishnamurty and Richard Mann are on hand for part two of unbeatable betting guide to the biggest cricket betting event of the year - the IPL.
They have team analysis for the top 5 in the betting, the players to bet (and to avoid), strategies and the all-important top-four finish and winner revealed.
Ed Hawkins: "Chennai Super Kings, the holders, and Mumbai Indians have won five titles each. It would be a surprise if the winner didn't come from the two powerhouses once more. Only one is value, however.
"And that is Mumbai. As sophisticated as the analytics of T20 has become these days - and books could be (and have been written about the whys and wherefores of a winning outfit) - sometimes it can be to ask about bald facts: who has the best squad?
"If there has been a better selection of players brought together for a tournament, it is hard to think of one. Mumbai bristle with power and skill."
