Fulham stay up on last day after £4k is traded at 1.01 in Betfair's relegation market
Follow the Premier League relegation battle as it happened with updates from the Betfair market.
Both Reading and Birmingham won their games on the last day of the Premier League season, but they will join Derby in next season's Championship after Fulham beat Portsmouth to retain their place in the top division.
Fulham had traded at [1.01] in Betfair's Premier League relegation market when losing 2-0 to Manchester City. Here's the story as it happened on the final day:
15:00: The four games kick off with the odds in Betfair's market standing at Birmingham [1.2] to be relegated. Fulham are [1.55], Reading [1.69] and Bolton [200.0].
15:15: It's as you are, with no Premier League goals yet. Birmingham are now [1.15] to back, with the rest: Fulham [1.5], Reading [1.8] and Bolton in to [55.0].
15:16: The first goal of the day is scored by Reading from midfielder James Harper. Reading are now out to [2.0] to be relegated.
15:20: Betfair's punters do not fancy Birmingham, who are struggling against Blackburn Rovers. They are now [1.06] to be relegated.
15:32: Birmingham have scored against Blackburn. As it stands, though, even with a win they will be relegated. They are now [1.13] and hoping for something from both Derby and Portsmouth. Reading are [1.53], Fulham [1.5] and Bolton now [100.0].
15:45: At half-time, the prices available are: Birmingham [1.1], Fulham [1.55], Reading [2.24], Bolton [240.0]
16:07: The first major action of the second-half is an equaliser for Blackburn against Birmingham. Is that the end for Alex McLeish's men? They're now [1.08] for the drop, Fulham are in to [1.33] and Reading continue a gradual drift, they're [2.3].
16:19: Reading have a second goal. They jump to [3.05], with the big losers Birmingham, now [1.02] to be in the Championship next season. Fulham are still [1.41] and Bolton have hit the maximum price of [1000.0] for small money.
16:25: Birmingham are now unbackable to be relegated on Betfair. Fulham are [1.45] and Reading [2.4].
16:27: Reading have a third goal and are now [2.72]. They have the points in the bag, but they need Portsmouth to get at least a draw against Fulham, who are [1.36].
16:33: A goal for Birmingham. They lead 2-1, but Betfair's customers are not convinced, and City are still unbackable. The prices available are now: Fulham [1.35], Reading [3.0] and Bolton [300.0].
16:35: Danny Murphy scores a flying header to put Fulham ahead against Portsmouth. Reading now need to score 7 to survive. They are now [1.42], Fulham [2.6], Bolton [300.0].
16:40: That Murphy goal has turned things on their heads and the prices are really moving. Fulham are now [4.0] and Reading [1.23].
16:45: Reading fans would give anything to be winning 7-0, as Middlesbrough currently are! Their best chance, though, is a Portsmouth goal. A good chance for Sean Davis goes begging and the prices reflect Reading's plight. Birmingham are unbackable, Reading [1.13], Fulham [6.0] and Bolton [250.0].
16:51: Full-time at Pride Park. Reading have triumphed easily, but are going down as it stands. They're now trading at [9.0] and Fulham are [1.09] to hold on for the win they need to stay up.
16:52: The final whistle at Pompey means Fulham stay in the Premier League. On Betfair, over £4k was traded at [1.01] that they'd be relegated when they were losing 2-0 at the City of Manchester stadium, while layers who matched Reading at [18.5] in the same market will be mightily disappointed.
