  • England backed to reach semi-finals

France are marginal favourites ahead of Ireland on the Betfair Exchange's Rugby World Cup outright winner market ahead of this weekend's quarter-finals.

Both sides are gunning to get their names on the Webb Ellis Trophy for the first time and bettors can barely separate them.

France are 4.216/5 to lift the trophy on home soil while Ireland are 4.3100/30. It is tight at the top as both nations prepare to take on southern hemisphere opponents in the last eight.

Ireland favourites to beat New Zealand

Ireland have never been beyond a quarter-final at the World Cup and standing in their way this time are the most illustrious opponents of them all - three-time world champions New Zealand.

Andy Farrell's men are ranked number one in the world and completed their pool matches with a clinical victory over Scotland. Ireland also beat New Zealand on their own patch last year.

Ireland are 1.845/6 for the win with New Zealand 2.3411/8. The All Blacks history means beating them is always a daunting task and Ireland need to overcome their last eight hoodoo.

Favs France won't underestimate Spring Boks

The hosts play the holders South Africa on Sunday and Betfair Exchange punters make France 1.865/6 to get the job done.

The French beat Italy 60-7 to make it four wins from four in the pool. They beat New Zealand in their opening match and now face a South Africa side that lost to Ireland in their pool match.

Fans will remember, however, that South Africa got better as the tournament went on four years ago.

The world champions are 2.285/4 to eliminate the hosts this weekend.

England and Wales both backed to make semis

Fans of England and Wales have been pleasantly surprised by their teams' progress so far and both are odds-on to win their quarter-finals.

England finished thier pool fixtures with a last-gasp 18-17 win over Western Samoa on Saturday. In the process, Owen Farrell broke Jonny Wilkinson's 12-year record as England's leading all-time points scorer.

Next up for the Red Rose is a quarter-final against Fiji who, despite already beating England this year, are 3.8514/5 outsiders. However, Fiji lost to Portugal in a pool match at the weekend.

England are 1.384/11 to beat Fiji on Sunday afternoon and 14.5 to go on to win the World Cup.

Wales came into the World Cup with low expectations but have produced fine performances in France to go give their fans hope they could challenge for rugby's biggest prize.

Warren Gatland's men are 1.654/6 to beat Argentina 2.77/4 who squeezed into the quarter-finals by beating Japan in a winner takes all pool fina match.

We will have previews and tips for all four Rugby World Cup quarter-finals later this week.
