Rodeo set for rich compensation
The Skelton operation have enjoyed plenty of success in this Arkle Chase Trial in recent seasons and Be Aware could add his name to lengthening rollcall at the expense of the talented Irish mare July Flower.
The latter is a classy recruit to fences judged on her exuberant opening display at Limerick where she got off the mark at the first time of asking in a winnable mares' beginners chase.
In the main, she was pretty brave that day and her gung-ho attitude at the final two fences in the straight illicited audible gasps from these quarters.
Whether she can afford to be quite so expansive around Cheltenham will be interesting to see, and no one could crib her enthusiasm, however my chief reservation about her chance today is how much has she learned from that initial session over the larger obstacles.
The market has taken few chances either so, with her price trading around evens at the time of writing, I'm happy to let her run at those odds and take her on with Be Aware.
He was far from a serial winner over hurdles despite dominating many a market, however he wasted little time in winning at his new vocation at Stratford and represents a team that have taken previous renewals with L'Eau du Sud, Third Time Lucki and North Hill Harvey.
Re-routed to this race from an assignment over three miles on Friday, Be Aware may well find this test on the lower end of his stamina requirements in time, but his experience garnered from fiercely competitive handicap hurdles may just see him follow up his comeback win.

Quite how conditions will be riding at this stage of the meeting are anyone's guess, but one horse which won't mind how attritional they become is Supremely West.
The two occasions the seven-year-old has gained significant lengths on his field from his hurdling have both been on heavy ground (Haydock and Uttoxeter) with the slower pace of those races masking a technique which isn't always bombproof.
There were signs that his approach to hurdles had become more efficient on his stable bow here three weeks ago when, as an easy-to-back 16/1 chance, he shaped with some promise behind the highly-talented Ma Shantou who has been quoted in some quarters for a Stayers' Hurdle.
Many of the Skelton runners this autumn have needed a run to put them straight and, given they landed this race with a well-backed winner 12 months ago, this looks to have been a long-term objective.
The only negative is the price, but anything aound 2/13.00 or bigger is fair.

The fancy prices that were around midweek about the chances of Last Rodeo have been eroded by the recent rainfall, but a double figure price with four places is still fair about a five-year-old who hasn't yet revealed the ceiling of his ability.
The son of Malinas wasn't given the chance to display his talents in the opening handicap of the Showcase meeting when a mid-race faller nearly bought the selection to his knees in the race won by French Ship.
It was to the selection's credit that he managed to stay on his feet, let alone run with considerable promise, posting a performance which suggested a stiffer stamina test might see him repeat his win at Lingfield in February on deep ground.
Last Rodeo has 23 lengths to make up on his old adversary today, but the fact trainer Christian Williams is prepared to have another pop at a talented rival suggests he believes this step up in trip on much easier ground will help narrow the gap.
