Aintree,14.40 - Back King Turgeon each-way @ 5/16.00

The cornerstone of King Turgeon's victories last year following his second wind surgery were undoubtedly his jumping which ranked highly on the RaceIQ jumping data.

A jump index of 8.8 (Chepstow), 8.6 (in this race 12 months ago) and 9.0 at Cheltenham in a premier staying handicap all showcased the seven-year-old's fine technique and contributed to him completing a rapid pre-Christmas hat-trick.

Given the son of Turgeon clearly has physical frailties, it seems notable that has he an excellent record fresh with his stats following a break of more than 11 weeks reading 121 with the defeat sustained by less than a length under a conditional rider.

Admittedly, the grey is higher in the handicap than 12 months ago, but he has earned that rise and, with his stable among the winners this week, he should put up a bold defence of his title having undergone a third wind surgery.

Aintree, 15.15 - Back Don't Mind If I Do @ SP

I will be disappointed if Don't Mind If I Do is still rated in the 120s by the end of the season such was the impression he left on me in the Warwick paddock last autumn.

I was fortunate to be covering that day's racing for Racing TV and the son of Diamond Boy was one of the nicest horses I witnessed first hand last season.

A grand model with loads of scope to progress, he ran well that day in a warm novice hurdle, finding the well-touted Castle Ivers just too strong following a good battle in the straight.

A winner of his next start at Wincanton in a race lacking depth, the selection then found deep ground at Wincanton against him which wasn't wholly a surprise given he looked a shell of a horse last season and appeared as though time and patience would be his biggest ally.

His trainer clearly though the same as we didn't see him again after that January reversal and the kindness should pay dividends this term with an attractive mark to exploit.

Doncaster, 15.45 - Back Stressfree each-way @ 8/19.00

The appropriately-named Stressfree has tested the patience of punters and pundits alike, but his record on Town Moor is pretty solid and he could be worth chancing once more to land the big pot which has often proved just out of reach.

The five-year-old is often the architect of his own downfall as he hasn't proved the heartiest in a battle in the past, but Doncaster and Haydock are tracks where he often excels and his track stats read 22374 at this venue.

That seventh place came in this race last year where he was held up out of his ground before staying on strongly to finish with three-and-a-half lengths of winner Lord Melbourne who bids to retain his crown.

While many feel Stressfree's career has plateaud, the assessor has disagreed, nudging up the selection's mark following his highly creditable efforts in the Ebor Handicap (4th to a subsequent Grade 1 winner in the States), the Old Borough Cup and last time when fifth to Lieber Power at Newbury in a race where today's favourite Castle Cove was fourth.

Two places in front of Stressfree that day was subsequent Cesarewitch winner Beylerbeyi and the ratings boys have stamped that effort as the gelding's best career effort, despite him having his challenge halted following some trouble in running, sadly an all too familiar refrain for the son of Anodin!

David Nolan is charged with trying to reverse the selection's fortunes with regular pilot Danny Tudhope absent and his mount is worth playing with the enhanced places on offer.
