Today's Racing Tips: O'Meara and Machete can prove a magic combination at Newcastle

Newcastle, 15:12 - Back Machete @ 11/43.75

The Class 4 handicap won in good style by Bahadur at Gosforth Park earlier last month has already started to work out nicely and Machete could be the latest from that event to star today.

The selection was again entitled to need that outing given he made his return to action just a fortnight beforehand at Pontefract following a 457-day absence from the track.

However, he kept on well enough to take third, just four lengths behind the winner who has endorsed the form by going in again at Southwell subsequently, while Midnight Lion in sixth has also scored since to strengthen Machete's case here.

Unlike many French recruits which end up at David O'Meara's North Yorkshire base, the son of Myboycharlie has yet to win for his connections with all four of his career successes recorded in his native country.

Those wins meant he arrived in the UK on a lofty mark which has dropped to 80 after a period of time away from the winner's enclosure and that absence could end in this winnable 0-80.  

Newcastle, 18:15 - Back Jesmond Dawn @ 9/43.25

Jesmond Dawn did everything but win over course and distance last week and can gain compensation for connections with conditions to suit.

Trainer Grant Tuer must be wondering if he'll ever train another winner given his four-year-old was nailed on the line by Blufferonthebus, a result which came hard on the heels of a nose defeat for Sovereign Class four days earlier and a neck reverse for Yorkshire Queen earlier that week.

Jesmond Dawn did precious little wrong under Oli Stammers and recorded three of his best four career efforts under the young rider last months so may still have some wiggle room on his current perch of 68.
