Paul On the Coral Gold Cup
Denman's victories were very special, obviously, I was watching some replays of him this morning. The race to me has been very lucky, I won it as a jockey in 1986 and 1987, first on Broadheath and then on Playschool.
So it was great to win it as a jockey twice, and then, of course, to win it four times as a trainer is fantastic with Strong Flow, Kandoo Kid and Denman twice and we also hit the crossbar a couple of times with horses like What A Friend who was second to Denman one year.
But the second time Demon won it, I think it was awesome, he carried top weight, and was just a very special horse, to carry that weight and win those two races was superb.
I did enjoy last year with Kandoo Kid because we'd set that up for a year, we'd had that in our mind, and to hit the jackpot with him was good. Probably not as talented a horse as Denman, but he was ready for the day, so yes, it's a race I love.
To win the race you need a horse that stays and to have a bit of class, which we always thought Kandoo Kid did. The horse we run on Saturday, Inch House, he's had a great prep, we always planned this race for him this year. And he had a lovely run around Cheltenham earlier in the season, ran very, very well.
He's obviously come on a lot since then, had an away day at Newbury, where he went nicely. He's not got the class perhaps of Kandoo Kid, but he's only got 10st2lbs. If we get some rain and the ground rides soft that would be a big advantage and I think he's got an outside chance.

Newbury Runners
Brave Kingdom is ready. He ran very well at this meeting last year and the more it rains, the better. If the ground is soft, even softer tomorrow, he'll have a big chance. He's brilliant fresh and loves it around there. I think he's got a nice chance.
Despite being pulled up last time at Uttoxeter, he's five pounds lower now. He is fragile and takes a bit of training but, as I said, he is good fresh.
Tahmuras was slightly disappointing last year, but he's really capable. He has won a Grade 1 over hurdles but he's now racing off top weight on Saturday. He's not the best handicapped horse in training by any means for what he's achieved, and so Jay's taking a handy five off. He'll probably improve for the run.
This is his second start of the season, he finished third at Chepstow on seasonal debut, behind a nice type in Sober Glory. He'll come on for the run today massively, mentally and physically. He was very green.
We hadn't been able to do too much schooling on the grass before that. He's done a lot since then and sharpened up. This is a competitive little race, but he'll improve massively on his Chepstow run.
He's having his first start for 596 days - he had a minor setback last year. If it rained and got very testing on Saturday, and it ended up soft or heavy, he'd love that, but I dare say he'll improve massivly for the run.
The idea is that, after this race at Newbury, he'll go chasing.
He's making his second start of the season, having run in the Welsh Champion Hurdle. I thought he was well handicapped off 130. He loved the ground. The more it rains, the better.
He is way, way sharper now than he was at Chepstow. The ground was quick enough for him that day. He probably does want two-and-a-half miles now, so the more testing the ground gets tomorrow, the better it'll suit him. He's actually a real each-way price. I think he'll run well. He'll go chasing after this, whatever happens.
Inch House ran very well at Cheltenham. He'd obviously had a bad injury when he had a fall for Jonjo on his last run at Ayr two years ago. I don't think he got over it last year, because at home he showed us nothing. On the track, in a race course gallop, he showed nothing. So we left him off, gave him plenty of time to get over his problems, and he came back in this year a different animal.
He needed the run at Cheltenham, there's no doubt about it. He wasn't really ready, but having had problems, we wanted to get a bit of a confidence booster into him and when you're going for a race like this you need a prep race. So that's what we did. He jumped well, travelled well, just got a bit tired from two out.
Now, he's come on massively from there. He'll have to show that improvement on Saturday but he's a lively outsider in my view.
