Get Paul Nicholls' Friday morning update on his Saturday runners

In the final Ditcheat Decs of the season Betfair ambassador Paul Nicholls talks to Betfair's Barry Orr, providing a Friday morning update on Team Ditcheat's Sandown runners this Saturday...

  • Paul may yet overtake Skelton in Trainers' Champ

  • Hitman goes in search of his first win

  • Blueking is fresh and has a nice chance

Looking ahead to Saturday at Sandown, Paul discussed the best chances among his 11 runners at Sandown.

First up, though, the Betfair ambassador congratulated Willie Mullins who is heavy odds-on to seal the Trainers' Championship tomorrow.

Paul said: "Willie winning the Grand National changed the season. It is impossible to beat him tomorrow so congratulations to Willie and his team. I feel for Dan (Skelton) a bit as he always thought that the first year he beat me would be the first year he won the championship.

"That said, he hasn't finished ahead of me yet and there is still Saturday to go. He is about £60K ahead of me but I would still like to beat him and it is possible."

"Sandown has always been good to us [Team Ditcheat] and we have got some great horses to run their tomorrow."

Hitman and Blueking are nice chances

Hitman shares favouritism in the 14:25 and Paul explained the decision to have his horse wear blinkers for the first time tomorrow.

"He has run some really good races without winning. I think he is one of those horses who over-performs and then gets slated for not taking that form further. He was second in the Denman Chase to Shishkin. The ground was too testing for Hitman in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham but I think he has a nice chance here."

On a day when he has so many runners in action Paul said it was tough to pick between Hitman and Blueking D'oroux in the 16:10 as his best chance.

"Blueking D'oroux is a big price but he is very fresh. He has nice form but, although he has plenty of weight, I can see him running a nice race on Saturday."

Threeunderthrufive pick of Gold Cup trio

Team Ditcheat have three runners - Flash Collonges, Threeunderthrufive and Enrilo - in the 15:35 Gold Cup and Paul said:

"The only one that really counts on form this year is Threeunderthrufive. We have trained him for this race and he missed Aintree for it. We would not want too much more rain. Good to soft would be perfect.

"Enrilo won it a couple of years ago but needs to step up on what he has done this season. Flash Collonges has a lot of questions to answer."
