Welcome to a brand new week. Daryl Carter is here to guide you through Monday's racing, highlight those Sportsbook market movers, and offer up a bet at a big price.
"The first time cheek-pieces go on today, and the drop back to five furlongs on the pick of her two-year-old form looks a good move, and her form took a drastic up-turn at this time of year last term."
The low graded action on Monday is hard to be over-enthusiastic about, but one man's rubbish is another's gold, and there could be a few gems out and about today.
Money Talk continues to highlight the Betfair Sportsbook big-money moves to keep you in the loop. This section will now highlight market moves between 1:00 am and 9:00 am.
Market says no!
Which horses at the head of the market are on the drift on the Betfair Sportsbook this morning?
Mark your card - Monday
The Betfair Sportsbook are paying extra places on six races today across the country, and you can find them here.
Lagenda 15/2 looks the pick of the five with a seven-pound claimer taking over the reins in the reapplied cheek-pieces. All of his wins have come in July or later.
In the finale at Pontefract 17:35 Paul & Jan Strong 25th Wedding Anniversary Handicap, trainer Micky Hammond and jockey Miss Becky Smith have combined eight times in this race in the last ten years and will look for their third successive win with Dragons Will Rise 11/4.
Lingfield host some competitive action, including the 14:15 Sky Sports Racing HD Virgin 535 Handicap.
Plenty of unexposed horses make their handicap debuts, but it could be Dual Identity who lands the spoils with the step up in trip sure to suit. The market has seen an overnight move for the unexposed thrice raced Spy Legend, who opened on the Sportsbook at 5/1 and is now into 9/5.
It's wet at Windsor - again
The ground is now soft at Windsor, forcing five non-runners out of the days most competitive race and our feature event, the 19:00 Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap.
There are now 14 non-runners and counting across the card this evening.
Southwell's jumps card sees Paul Nichols' Mick Pastor back in action to take on Fergal O'Brien's Courtandbould in a cracking three runner affair at 14:00.
It's been frustrating this morning given this selection opened up on the Sportsbook yesterday at 40/1, and the plethora of non-runners have cut the each-way places to two. However, it still may pay to take a bit of a flyer on One Day 15.014/1 in the 18:30 Fitzdares Club @ Windsor Is Now Open Handicap.
No doubt the favourite will be hard to beat if coping with an 11lb rise, but the selection has been dropped 16lbs since the turn of the year and is yet to run over her optimum trip of five furlongs on the turf.
It was an encouraging seasonal return over six furlongs after being denied a clear run at Brighton, but she failed to see out that trip and perhaps faulted for fitness.
Her latest effort at the same venue was a further step in the right direction, and she now has the services of an experienced five-pound claimer, effectively allowing her to run off a handicap mark of 48.
The first time cheek-pieces go on today, and the drop back to five furlongs on the pick of her two-year-old form looks a good move, and her form took a drastic up-turn at this time of year last term.
She won't mind any further rain being by sire Adaay, who has a 14% win rate with progeny on soft ground (from a small sample), and she really ought to be making her presence felt in this company.
Timeform punting at Ponte
The Timeform team continue to come good with the winners, and today head over to Pontefract.
Race of the day
Windsor is currently soft and has already seen a few non-runners this morning but the 19:00 Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap still looks a hot race for a Monday.
Atalanta's Boy won't mind any rain falling, and although he has a patchy record, he is more than capable of defying this handicap mark if on a going day.
His best form has come at Goodwood, but he was second here last term on quicker ground off a lower handicap mark, but the suspicion is that we haven't seen the best of him yet.
Connections have expressed that his ultimate aim is the Stewards Cup later in the year.
Tinto gave the firm indication that he was ready to strike here last time out, and he is now five pounds below his last winning handicap mark.
He is a soft ground winner previously, but he tends to miss the break, which always puts him on the back foot.
He is more than capable in this company, and he could be a good angle for an in running play should he break on terms.
Punchbowl Flyer continues to run well and led home his group at Royal Ascot last time in the Wokingham off of this handicap mark.
He has built up a very strong record with soft in the going description over six furlongs scoring in five of his six runs under such conditions.
The handicapper may have caught up with him, but he boasts an excellent course and distance success this season and has very few negatives.
This quick turnaround (nine days later) could be his undoing, but he is a solid each-way player.
Stat of the day
22% Mark Johnston's strike rate with three-year-old's at Musselburgh. Today he saddles Silver Shade 20:15.
The Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on Saturday is shaping up to be one of the races of the season.
The outstanding Mishriff 5/2 heads the market, but he may have competition from top-class horses such as Love 5/1, St Mark's Basilica 5/2, Lord North 5/1, Snowfall 5/1, Palace Pier 8/1 and plenty more.
Aidan O'Brien has 13horses entered for the race, with four in the top six of the betting.
Hopefully some useful information in today's piece to help you find a winner or two on a quiet Monday.
Again, the action comes thick and fast the further we go into the week, so ensure discipline is on your side and don't go throwing good cash after bad especially on days like today.
Until tomorrow, be lucky.
