Saturday horse racing tips and insight
Wellington Arch didn't quite make the cut for the BetMGM Cup on Wednesday, but that might be a blessing as he looks to have a nice chance in this event, despite top-weight. The selection emerged best of those that were left trailing in the wake of Tutti Quanti in a valuable handicap hurdle at Newbury back in February, coping well with desperate ground to take second, admittedly at a respectful distance.
A winner of a warm handicap at Aintree last year from the front, Wellington Arch returns to a track day which has suited him well in the past and, with his yard among the Festival winners this week, he could reward support in this competitive handicap.

It has been well documented that the Timeform Novices' Handicap Chase at Cheltenham on Trials Day has historically been a good race to follow and, although the winner Jordans Cross found conditions against him on Thursday, runner Quebecois ran a blinder in the Ultima Chase on day one.
There have been a host of other excellent performance to emerge from that event in January, not least from Secret Des Dieux who completed a rather routine victory at Huntingdon last time in an uncompetitive event.
Trainer James Owen has wisely saved his novice for this event at a track where he ran so well on Boxing Day and the move can pay off with success here.

A convincing winner at Newbury when last seen, A Pai De Nom may not be deterred by a 5lb rise and could be worth sticking with for Dan Skelton, who enjoyed winners at the Cheltenham Festival this week. He finished third in a competitive handicap to Iberico Lord in his penultimate start, when bidding for a third successive win, and remains on an upward trajectory, capable of showing further improvement.
The six-year-old makes only his seventh start over hurdles having performed consistently well over obstacles to date, recording form figures of 121131. He was also a length-and-three-quarters second to Sober Glory in a Chepstow bumper on debut, form that has been significantly franked, and should prove to be better than his current rating of 129 reflects.

He ran very well against Constitution Hill, loves good ground. I took him out of last weekend because the ground was so bad and is crying out for two-and-a-half miles. He has a lot in his favour in a competitive race and has a nice chance.
It's going to take a good one to beat J'Arrive de l'Est from his current mark of 126.
Now with Emmet Mullins (previously trained by Daniela Mele), he showed useful ability over fences in his homeland, notably scoring twice in cross-country events. Since switching to Mullins, the gelding has quickly suggested he can build on that foundation.
He has run with credit on both starts for his new connections, finishing runner-up on the cross-country course at Cheltenham on successive occasions in December and January, and that despite not being seen to maximum effect on either occasion.
J'Arrive De L'Est was unable to secure a place in either the Cross Country Chase or the Kim Muir at the Festival, but this assignment looks a smart piece of placing by Mullins. Still relatively unexposed in staying handicaps and proven over extreme trips, he arrives here with conditions likely to play to his strengths.

Califet en Vol was a two-time winner over hurdles last season, but he's all over a chaser on looks, and he ran with plenty of encouragement in races which have worked out well prior to opening his account over course and distance three weeks ago. He bumped into Sixmilebridge on his debut, finished third to some useful types at Cheltenham next time, and improved a little further when fifth in another strong edition of the Timeform Novices' Handicap Chase.
Califet en Vol showed more of what he's about when deservedly getting his head in front recently, though, jumping soundly and gradually asserting away from a pair of other fancied rivals. A subsequent 5lb rise looks fair given he's improved with each start so far and more than likely has even more to offer - he has the Timeform small p attached to his rating.

Milcree has been one to wait for over fences in the Hemmings colours, proving that patience is an admirable trait. He made his comeback at Ayr after 622 days but the time away was no barrier to a super smooth performance as he displayed a lovely relaxed attitude over his fences, and his jump at the ditch preceding the straight was a super leap - followed by two more good ones to seal the win. His race IQ on jumps' lengths gained was the best in the field.
Milcree travelled well in the soft going on that occasion and followed up to make it two from two over fences at Kelso with a little further in distance and in more testing going. To highlight his stamina, his final sectional at the end of 2m6f in heavy clocked 16.27, the third had 19.00 seconds. He was awkward over hurdles as a young horse, but he has matured, the extra yards again will suit and there's a nice novice handicap chase on Scottish Grand National Day potentially down the line.
