Murbih can take advantage of a drop down in class
Back Murbih @ 4/1 in the 16:25 at Redcar
A blank in Ireland yesterday, but the right thinking in taking on New York City who was a 6/5f in the end. Unfortunately Beauty Inspire got worked up in the stalls and was withdrawn, so hopefully he is okay to fight another day. Ger Lyons still had the winner with Twilight Jet and could be Commonwealth Cup bound - but it will be interesting how his stablemate fares against him throughout the season.
Antony Brittain's Murbih has been a bit of a project of mine and I tipped him in the multiples' column last time he ran. He was a big price that day and had drifted out to a BSP price of 15.014/1 and was nabbed on the line - hitting 3.052/1 in-running.
He was dropped to 5f for that Ripon race, and that's what he wants - as he is pretty quick and doesn't look to have stamina. He ran 10.85 and 11.09 in that for the hottest part of the race, and it was a speedily run 5f. His slowest furlong was by the far the final one, so he'll need to race a bit more conservatively, but I think he is learning.
Murbih was quite keen at Newcastle from a steady pace with his previous run, but the stiff finish there didn't suit him.
He's been in 0-80 company and today is a drop in class with a draw nearer to the stand side. Hopefully the long-term project can come off, as he has a fine pedigree and Brittain does well with these Shadwell cast-offs.
Bell to provide a Windsor hurragh with 3yo on handicap debut
Back Haarar @ 9/2 in the 20:10 at Windsor
There's an extremely interesting runner in a handicap for the first time lurking at the end of the Windsor card, and Michael Bell's Haarar looks the one at around 3.55/2.
The 3yo had three starts last season - all at huge prices including his final start at a whopping 140.0139/1.
His first run was easily his most interesting in a red hot Newmarket maiden, as the winner was Modern Games - who won the Poulains yesterday in France and his next step is the Prix Du Jockey Club. The second, Saga, is rated in the mid-90s and the third, Thunder Angel, has since won a handicap from 90. The fourth is a good horse too.
Haarar didn't possess the necessary fleet of foot for that 7f test, but he actually ran a the final furlong quicker than Modern Games. Indeed, his final furlong was the fastest in the whole field. Considering the lofty company, it was an indicator to talent there, as the clock doesn't lie.
It was rather curious then he was dropped back down to 6f in his next two starts, trips he patently wasn't quick enough for, nor bred for. However, while his Windsor effort was a heavy defeat, the race as a whole earned a big sectional upgrade.
His pedigree is all stamina, as his dam Interchange was a 1m4f horse, and his half-brother Prince Alex was a stayer at 1m6f-plus.
Haarar looks on a good mark of 66 now granted the 1m3f test. His trainer Michael Bell has had a winner at Windsor this term from four runners and overall has a near 19% strike-rate at the course.
