Sun Festival

Timeform's Tony McFadden highlights a Nap, Next Best and Each-Way selection at Chelmsford on Thursday.

NAP

Sun Festival - 20:00 Chelmsford

Sun Festival was only narrowly denied when last seen at Lingfield in June and he can make a winning return after edging up just 1 lb in the weights. That near-miss at Lingfield was the third time in a row that Sun Festival finished runner-up as he also had to settle for second over this course and distance and at Kempton. Sun Festival can have his efforts here and at Kempton upgraded as he helped set a strong gallop which set things up nicely for the closers, so he deserves credit for staying in the fight for as long as he did. He also found plenty for pressure when only narrowly beaten by a subsequent winner at Lingfield last time, and he ought to launch another bold bid here with Josephine Gordon taking over in the saddle from an inexperienced 7 lb claimer.

NEXT BEST

Costa Adeje - 20:30 Chelmsford

Costa Adeje remains a maiden after 20 starts but he has finished runner-up on two of his last three outings and was unlucky to bump into a well-handicapped rival on both occasions. Costa Adeje was disappointing on his penultimate outing in a mile handicap here last month, but he bounced back when runner-up at Wolverhampton last time, seeing out the nine-and-a-half-furlong trip well. Costa Adeje was no match for the thriving winner, Queen of Ipanema, who has won twice since, but he deserves credit for pulling six and a half lengths clear of the third. He can run off the same mark here and is unexposed over this mile-and-a-quarter trip, so can register an overdue success.

EACH-WAY

Angle Land - 19:30 Chelmsford

Angle Land has been placed on her last four outings, including over course and distance the last twice, so she ought to give another good account of herself. She went down fighting here on her penultimate start, only just missing out by a short-head, and she again found just one too good here last time when collared close home. She has edged up 2 lb since her latest effort, but remains 1 lb below the mark she defied at Lingfield in May so is still on a competitive mark. Connections will be hoping the switch of headgear from a visor to blinkers will bring about further improvement.
