Down in grade
It's a quiet Sunday on the betting front after the top-quality action at Aintree this week. Transitioning (excuse the unintended pun) out of a festival is always tricky, but the Class 3 action at Plumpton makes appeal.
San Pedro runs well at this venue, and Royal Pretender is interesting. Still, Neil Mulholland won this last year with Crossing The Bar and could notch up back-to-back victories with Transmission.
He bolted up here in dramatic style three starts ago. That was a stronger race than this, and the second and third went narrowly close to winning next time, while the fourth won over fences, beating a handful of subsequent winners. It may pay to forgive his latest efforts, dropping back in grade.
The seven-year-old has an unexposed profile over staying distances, and he could provide the answer to a tricky affair, having shaped with encouragement despite being given an impossible task from well off the pace at Sandown in a strong Premier Handicap in February.
What went wrong at Uttoxeter is anyone's guess, but it is out of line with his form this season, and this sharper three miles is right up his street. He could yet have more to offer, and Joe Anderson's five-pound claim reduces the burden of top weight, and a quicker surface holds no fears.
He is currently 11/43.75 with the Sportsbook, who want to duck him but back him at BSP.
