Horse Racing Tips: Two sprinters to make some noise in a Ripon Sunday service

Ripon
Quick ground awaits at Ripon on Sunday

Alan Dudman is backing trainers Tim Easterby and Rae Guest to go well on Sunday in his latest double...

  • Sprinter still well treated on 2022 numbers

  • Handicap debutante can go better down in distance

  • Alan Dudman has 6/17.00 and 15/28.50 tips at Ripon

Ripon - 13:45: Back Object

We will have quick-ish conditions at Ripon today and some of the handicaps look worth tackling, and as ever with the sprints, a high draw is a must.

Ergo, Tim Easterby's Object has to be on the shortlist following a couple of good runs already this year and off a mark in the 60s could be lobbed in here considering he was rated 84 with Martyn Meade in 2022.

A nice sharp 5f suits and he's gone well at Catterick in two runs already this season. He scored on reappearance in soft there in April but couldn't quite repeat the feat soon after under penalty.

I don't see the quicker ground a problem at all, in fact it might illicit a bit more as he travelled really well in his younger days when scoring for Meade in a Newmarket Novice. In fact, he looked a fair 2yo back then, but lost his way.

Easterby is a below par this term at Ripon with 2-24 at around 8%, but he has plenty of runners and can be streaky and his five year strike-rate is better at around 14%.

Object could lead here, and Alex Fielding is back able to claim 7lbs.

Ripon - 16:25: Back Raffles Angel

The 16:25 6f Handicap is low-grade stuff at 0-58 level, but Raffles Angel has the potential to improve on her handicap debut and slowly seems to be getting the hang of things.

In three starts thus far, all at Chelmsford, there was ability on debut albeit in a shocker of a race with the odds-on favourite beaten, but I drew something from her latest run in Essex over 7f.

She was too keen there and over-raced, and never ever settled. So back to 6f looks a wise move and her draw is fair in eight.

Starting out life from 60 in a bad race looks worth a punt here at 15/28.50 and while her trainer Rae Guest has had only one winner this year, five of the 21 have placed.

And what a shame she'll never run in the Albany, as her namesake Raffles - the safecracker, resided at rooms of the very name.
