Horse Racing Tips: Tribal and Opinion to star in Newmarket debuts on Wednesday

• Back outsider of two Appleby runners

• Sea The Stars placed record of 33% over 1m2f

• Alan's two HQ selections at 11/43.75 and 11/26.50

Newmarket - 14:25: Back Strong Opinion

I will be off for a few days until Monday and Wednesday's options are very limited with the rain turning the white roses to grey, and soft ground at Newmarket hopefully won't be a hindrance to my two selections to sign off with a winner or two.

It's a case of keeping it pretty simple today and Charlie Appleby is double-handed in the 14:25 Point Sur and and Strong Opinion, but the price on the latter from 13/27.50 into 11/26.50 has got me interested.

Point Sur has the experience, and William Buick, but Strong Opinion has a top notch pedigree as his dam Persuasive (who earned a rating of nigh on 115) was a winner on debut at 2yo and has produced two winners from her two horses so far.

One of her runners was Theoryofeverything who won by 6L on debut, and Strong Opinion wasn't cheap either at 1,000,000 guineas. Price tags don't mean an awful lot, but I am influenced by the dam here and that 2yo angle.

Sire Dubawi has impressive stats with 2yos at Newmarket over 7f with a win rate of 25% and placed 46%.

Newmarket - 15:00: Tribal Star

More of a test awaits the youngsters in the 15:00 with a 2yo Maiden over 1m2f, and in the ground will be quite a stern examination with the stayers for the future on show.

Appleby has won the last two editions of this race with Cannon Rock and New London, and he has a great chance for three with the Sea The Stars offspring Tribal Star.

The selection has a ton of stamina in his pedigree as his dam was a winner over 1m6f, anything by Sea The Stars gets me interested, and today's 1m2f could be a bare minimum.

Although the drift from 7/42.75 to 11/43.75 was something to note.

The trainer is 8-16 running at a 50% strike-rate in the last two weeks and the sire has a 33% placed record over 1m2f for his 2yos.

Tribal Star is another costly one at 550k, and while the yard are slightly down in terms of their numbers, Appleby has still fired in 19 winners at HQ this term.
