  • High Point is on the upgrade

  • Karmology let in lightly off 84

  • Karl Burk could have another useful one on his hands

Prices seem to have moved very quickly this Tuesday evening, which has left me disappointed as I wanted to get stuck into Fox Journey at Kempton in the 20:00. I was hoping for around 5/23.50, which would have been a solid bet and even 2/13.00 I was happy to get a bit of cash on. Still, he was caught very early by savvy punters and is now 10/111.91, which I can leave alone and continue with this patient approach on the week.

Another mover was Trais Fluors in the 19:00 at Kempton. I had to pull him late from this column, having gone from 10/111.00 into 7/18.00, and I told myself he needs to be a double-figure price. He has an outstanding record on the AW surface with career form figures of 35112; the fifth was in a Group 3 at Dundalk back in 2020, so it baffles the mind why it has taken them so long to get him back to this scene. He should go well if you want a few quid. I had to pass reluctantly.

There is little between a number of these, and although behind Prepschool at Epsom, High Point - 8/19.00 on the Betfair Sportsbook- showed a good attitude once set down for the drive at Windsor and improved on his previous three efforts.

There was only a neck between the selection and favourite Prepschool when the former was making his debut (soft), and this stiffer test of stamina today should see him in a better light.

He is taken to reverse that form today with further experience under the belt, and Eve Johnson Houghton's two-year-old is on the upgrade, well-bred and may be able to improve past some of these.

Curran had the run of the race at Pontefract when narrowly holding Prepschool, but both were all out at the line and the third, The Hun, who both had well held in previous starts, managed to get much closer and was arguably an unlucky loser.

That form is of a level, but their handicap ratings surely overestimate what they have achieved with little worthwhile conviction in runners outside of those mentioned. At the same time, it's not wise to underestimate it too much, either.

Monterosa was well held at the death by High Point at Windsor last time, and he is expected to confirm that form today, given she was all at sea here in the dip on her penultimate start. The selection looks overpriced and is worth siding with at 5/16.00 or bigger in this company.

16:10 Newmarket - Back Karmology @ 4/15.00 1pt (NAP)

Karl Burke's Karmology - 4/15.00 on the Betfair Sportsbook - looks to have been given a very fair opening rating of 84 by the handicapper. While there is concern about how well she will handle the ground conditions, she is by far the most intriguing runner in the contest.

She has been an effortless winner in both of her starts to date, including when turning over the 1/25 favourite and 92-rated Doom on debut at Ripon. That was run on good ground, and she was continuously changing her legs and hit the ground hard with a slight knee action. All of those signs would suggest that she would have no trouble with the easier surface here despite being by Golden Horn, who raced solely on good ground - his progeny seem to handle most surfaces.

Many of the selection rivals are exposed, and many are hard to make a case for, including favourite Zouzanna on this surface over this trip. She caught the eye at Newmarket staying on well, but it was disappointing to see she didn't clock the fastest final furlong, and there may be a reason connections keep dropping back to 7f, having started her career over this trip of 1m.

Karmology is clearly the most promising horse in the field and is likely to rate higher than all of these next year, and while her future may lie over further than this, it bodes well that she has shown a smart turn of foot to win in steadily run races in two outings.

I am keen to keep Prisha on my side. She has more to offer, and the daughter of Ribchester will surely relish these slower conditions, but her draw in stall two could see her find traffic problems similar to when eye-catching behind Zouzanna at Haydock.

Karmology is the percentage call, and she is birthed well in stall six. and in the hope that Pierre-Louis Jamin can grab the rail, she should be finishing strongly and hard to pass.
