Horse Racing Tips: Thomson hurdler can improve again in Thursday double

Wetherby
A Class 3 race at Wetherby is on the punting radar for Thursday

Alan Dudman landed a double yesterday with BSP winners at 6.9 and 2.6, and he has two more picks for his Thursday multiple...

  • Alan Dudman has had three singles win in four days

  • Keable a big price with an unexposed profile

  • Wetherby pick has plenty going for him

Taunton - 16:25: Back Keable

Looking at conditions for Thursday, the ground could be slightly better at Taunton than at everywhere else and the field of 14 can make a price for the selection in Keable. If you fancy him each-way, there are four places on the Sportsbook.

He was 12/113.00 last night, and if I am honest, I've got no idea what way he is going to go in the market. His stablemate Tiny Tetley is haf the price, yet they both have similar profiles.

The 7yo is set for his second run in a handicap after three starts at 2m5f, 2m6f and 2m7f, but we have to ignore an appalling run when last seen earlier in February 2023 when beaten 47L.

Whether the ground was too quick could be the answer to the lamentable effort, but the fact he's been off since then for over a year suggests that something was not right.

He had previously finished second to Snipe at Ffos Las, so running well there indicates he'll suit the step up to 3m this afternoon and he had put enough daylight to third in the race. He made a bad blunder too in Wales and did well to overcome it.

The rookie also ran well behind Egbert in a slowly run race at Ludlow.

Three miles and more of a stamina test are plusses for me, and his opening handicap mark of 110 isn't the sternest. At the price, I thought he was worth taking a chance with.

Wetherby - 16:35: Back War Soldier

The 16:35 over 2m4f at Wetherby looks a good race with the top rated off 132 and a couple of bang in-form horses.

El Jefe initially was worth a look as his smooth-travelling style always catches the eye, but he is 1lb out of the weights and I feel the class of opposition might be too strong. However, he might be worth an in-play back-to-lay if that's your thing.

I've been following Paddy O'Mahler too, as he's well treated but he's a lazy so-and-so. So I will leave him for now.

I am with War Soldier at 3/14.00, and he battled well up in trip last time to win at Wetherby over today's distance, and he's certainly unexposed in his career and at the trip.

He looked a good prospect winning a novice at Haydock in 2022, and while he ran over 2m and scored on that occasion, his jockey Ryan Mania said post-race he isn't (or wasn't) really a two-miler and stays all day. I was impressed with his jumping too at Haydock.

His trainer Sandy Thomson must have thought he was up to a decent level as he pitched him into a good race Ayr and also ran in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham.

It's still early days and I like him at the price, and off 122 there's scope to improve a bit more off a 6lb higher mark.

Mania too is worth noting, as he is a rider on the hotlist with 8-25 at 32%.
