Alan Dudman has a Sportsbook double @ 16/117.00
Wolverhampton fans have the luxury again of another pair of Classified Stakes races, and I'll be leaving those well alone today after a bet in one of them last week.
The grade isn't much better for the 18:30 Handicap, but Gustav Graves is at least in good form and was backed accordingly on the Sportsbook this morning from 9/25.50 into 10/34.33.
He was in a hopeless position in rear over C&D last time and did remarkably well to finish as close as he did in third. The winner and second were ridden prominently, but Gustav Graves was virtually stone last and wide into the straight, and as the run-in at Wolves is so short, he just didn't have the time.
His final sectionals off an even pace were quicker than the first two, indeed he was half a second quicker than the runner-up.
Tonight's jockey Jo Mason was on when he won over C&D previously, and while he can pull sometimes, he has form around here and can hopefully make up for that effort last time.
I am chancing trainer Derek Shaw to have a good day, with not only Gustav Graves, but also Jumira Bridge in the 19:30, and he is very much a Wolverhampton horse with three wins at the track and two over C&D.
The 10yo is running for the 81st time tonight in his career and travelled sweetly despite his advancing years to finish second over C&D last time.
He's the sort of horse that does need a bit of luck off the pace with something to aim at and Chelmsford has worked out well for him of late as he seems to go well there too.
This is his grade and he's drawn on the inside in three so hopefully he can get the tow into the race he craves.
