Musselburgh - 13:45: Back Park Annonciade

Off to Musselburgh to see in the New Year celebrations, and a chance to recover from the sore heads. Mine is two-fold with the post 2023 revelry and another second from yesterday as Count Otto was chinned on the line.

There's a decent 2m Handicap Hurdle for the opening bet and the progressive Park Annonciade bids for the hat-trick at a price of 10/34.33, and the drop back to the minimum 2m shouldn't be an issue at all for this 6yo.

His win last time came in good race at Haydock under today's conditional Ben Bromley and he travelled with ease in the good to soft conditions to win by nearly 3L.

Bromley held him up that day and with the style of the pace he displayed, he should have more than enough speed for a quick 2m here.

Previously he scored on the west coast at Ayr with a battling performance to dig deep and win, and the pair were nearly 4L clear.

Marks of 109 and 114 have seen him take his record in handicaps to 2-3, and while a PB is needed again, he still looks ahead of his mark.

His trainer Stuart Crawford does well with his Scottish raids and over the past five seasons is 4-22 at 18% at the track.

Musselburgh - 14:55: Back Indian Louis

The hurdling days of Lucinda Russell's Indian Louis didn't last long after three starts and the trainer has wasted no time in sending the rookie 6yo over fences today for his chase debut, and the step up to 2m4f looks a move worth following.

I wasn't alone this morning either, as Indian Louis was strong on the Sportsbook from 11/43.75 into 2/13.00.

In his three runs this season he has shaped like a horse crying out for more of a test and his best run was a third at Hexham in November when going down by 10L. A 126-rated second in the race was beaten at 1/61.17 that day and the form of his Ayr run was good as the first two looked nice types.

He cost 70K at last winter's Cheltenham Sales and a mark of 100 is a pretty lowly starting point in a winnable race.
