Two Extra Place Specials at Newcastle
-
Michael Dods runner unexposed on the All-Weather
-
Oldroyd 4yo running well in York handicaps
Fixtures have fallen left right and centre with the storms and rain, with Fakenham, Uttoxeter and Haydock all off for Friday, so it's wise to stick with Newcastle this evening, and we should get a price on a couple of the selections tonight with the extra place races.
Roaring Ralph for Michael Dods has drifted to 13/27.50 and was a touch unlucky at the track last time running over 6f - a race where he just could not get a clear run.
The 6f might have been too short too and he'll be happier with the return to 7f tonight, but there was certainly a case for him from his last run to describe him as unlucky.
He bolted up at Redcar earlier in the season by nearly 5L from 61 and also scored at Wolves over 7f, and the blinkers have certainly had the desired effect.
The 3yo is drawn well here and he's unexposed on the All-Weather with just a handful of starts.
Trainer Geoff Oldroyd hasn't had too many winners this term, but the 20:00 looks wide open and the selection is worth chancing here as he's been in much tougher races of late at York on the turf.
Doctor Khan Junior probably went too soon on the stands' side on the Knavesmire last time and was too keen and wide away from the action at York on his previous start in 0-90 company - but he wasn't beaten far in that.
He took to the Newcastle surface well back in the spring when winning over 6f, and he still has the look of a progressive 7f or 6f horse down the line for a winter campaign.
Oldroyd trained the dam Ladies Are Forever to win a stack of races, and off 74, rates a bet at 7/18.00.
This is also an extra place special if you are looking to go each-way.
