Newmarket - 15:00: Back Ottoman Fleet

It wasn't a day that went according to plan for Charlie Appleby and William Buick yesterday with all five Godolphin runners turned over at Newmarket, although Buick found himself in the wrong position perhaps on the near side in a couple of the races.

Wednesday should be better for the duo and Ottoman Fleet's claims look strong for the Earl Of Sefton - and he's looking to follow up last year's win in the race.

He won by 2L 12 months ago under a confident Buick ride, although the ground was slightly different then as it was officially good to soft, but he seems to handle any type of surface.

That was the only time we saw him in the UK in 2023 as he was on his travels, and his spell in Meydan recently was in a high level company and finished second in a Group 1 off a muddling pace.

A superb record at Newmarket too, he looks rock solid today at 85/403.10.

Newmarket - 16:45: Back Poetic Dawn

Appleby has two in the 16:45 Maiden Fillies' race over 1m and Aurora's Beauty is the one with experience finishing fourth on her first start Wolverhampton, but I am going to take a chance on the newcomer for the yard in Poetic Dawn.

She's around the 6/17.00 mark and she's related to some tip-top Godolphin runners including Military Order, Adayar (dam a half-sister) and Anna Salai.

Indeed, the dam is by Sea The Stars, and she perhaps will use this in terms of a trip as a stepping stone to races over further, but Appleby has a strike-rate of 21% and 42% win and placed with his 3yos over 1m.
