Ayr Racecourse
It's another double in Scotland today for Alan

Alan Dudman had a single winner yesterday with Indian Louis at 5.8 BSP and he has another two selections for Tuesday's action...

  • Testing conditions to suit Clovis Boy

  • Marown has the egde after good comeback

  • Alan Dudman has 7/24.50 and 11/43.75 Ayr picks

Ayr - 13:15: Back Clovis Boy

Lucinda Russell delivered for the column with the single win of Indian Louis at Musselburgh yesterday and we had a rather nice drift too out from 2/13.00 to nearly 5s and the trainer looks to have a couple of nice chances at Ayr this afternoon.

Clovis Boy will have no issue with the testing conditions nor staying the trip today as he won over 2m4f in the mud at Hexham last time out and that was a proper test in heavy ground. The time was quicker than the Maiden Hurdle too that day.

Stamina looks his forte and a 5lb rise up to 95 keeps him in this rather lowly class of race, which looks winnable to say the least.

His two best runs in his light career to date have been on heavy as he ran quite well in a crawl of a contest at Kelso last term in a bumper.

Related to staying chaser Royal Palladium, stamina can win him the day here.

Russell is 4-24 a Ayr this term at nearly 17% and his two market rivals here are both going up in distance.

Ayr - 13:45: Back Marown

The following 13:45 has six runners and bar Mr Josiey Wales at 20/121.00, it could be a greyhound race market with five of the field at 11/43.75 to 4/15.00.

I initially weighed a bet with Up Helly AA King as he looked as though he needed his first at Cheltenham last time, but this is a 0-140 and he's now a 13yo, and I wonder if it's biting off a little more than he can chew.

However, Marown loves testing ground and he does have age on his side as a 10yo, and I am in full agreement here with my colleague Daryl Carter who makes him one of his bets today.

His return to action was a pleasing one over C&D last time in soft conditions - going down by 6L to a Lucinda Russell runner who had race fitness.

Marown travelled like the better horse and hit 2.08 in-running, but it showed he's in good nick and likes Ayr.

One of his better runs in a winless campaign last term came at Carlisle on heavy over an inadequate 2m4f when rattling home, and considering he was a handy novice rated in the mid-to-high 130s, he's off a fair enough mark too today.

Back Marown @ 7/24.50
