Wonderwall completes an 89/1 Bank Holiday double
The opening handicap at Yarmouth on Bank Holiday Monday features plenty of exposed types, but Ed Dunlop's filly Perovskia is a notable exception.
She'll make her handicap debut from a mark of just 52 and can be expected to step up markedly on what she's shown in three starts to date.
The pick of those three efforts as a juvenile came when third of four to Mexicali Rose in a novice contest at Chepstow in August, form that looks pretty good in the light of what the winner has achieved since (third in a listed race for Joseph O'Brien earlier this month).
On pedigree, the step up from 7f to 1m looks sure to suit Perovskia too, and the booking of Hollie Doyle also looks a positive, who takes over from 5lb claimer Morgan Cole.
The feature race on Cartmel's Monday card is the class 2 handicap hurdle at 14:55 and there looks to be some value in siding with Wonderwall under James Bowen.
This eight-year-old rather lost his way in late-2023/early-2024 but took a big step back in the right direction when third in a decent Aintree handicap earlier this month.
He briefly looked the likeliest winner briefly and succumbing only to a pair played later in what was a well-run race and has definitely given himself a platform to perhaps do even better.
He's also dropped significantly in he weights over the last couple of seasons, bearing in mind he was rated 134 when contesting the County Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2023.
Wonderwall gets to race off a mark of 120 here and looks sure to go close if reproducing the form of his last run back over this longer trip.
