Alan looking for his fifth single winner in six days
Harappan was a comfortable winner for the column yesterday by nearly 3L, but Farouk De Cheaneau finished lame unfortunately to leave our double quest short.
With just one card in the UK in the afternoon, we'll take in the 16:30 from Newton Abbot and course specialist Clearance is bidding for his fourth track and trip victory today at a price of 11/43.75.
Michael Blake's 9yo is a pretty tough sort, and today will be his 57th career start, but he is thriving at the moment and landed the money last time on good ground and was well backed too.
He won in June too despite some trouble in the race, and a steadily run affair too as he was able to quicken up.
Good ground suits him and the forecast in the west country is at least dry.
Lady Adare has a higher rating for Harry Fry and I imagine she'll make the running here as she does stay a bit further, but the wind surgery since her last run at Cheltenham is slightly off-putting.
Clearance is fit and is up only 3lb to 107 for his latest win.
Off to Worcester for the second leg, and a tricky 19:30 2m7f Maiden Hurdle with Seinesational at the top of the market in the battenberg silks, and money for Shandancer into 7/24.50 from 5/16.00.
However sandwiched in between is Ben Pauling's Sforza Castle, and a little drift this morning to 5/23.50.
Sforza Castle looks a doubtful stayer to me judged on his 2m4f run at Worcester on good ground in July, and I wasn't convinced he lasted home either in soft conditions when making the run last time.
Shandancer is beatable, therefore Seinesational almost becomes the de facto selection due to the potential weakness of the others.
He's 0-9 over hurdles with five seconds, which is slightly off-putting, and he has a 1.241/4 and a 1.141/7 in-running next to his name when losing.
The 9yo finished second over CD last time on good ground, and should have won had he not made a mistake at the last. His stamina could see him home here.
Richard Newland is 3-20 at the track this season at 15%, although he posseses a 17% strike-rate over the last five years.
