Trainer William Haggas (in shirt) has a 38% win rate at Newcastle this season

Alan Dudman continued his good tipping form this week with Willem Twee's advised 7/24.50 win yesterday and he has a double for Newcastle on Thursday...

  • Sea The Stars excellent stats over 1m4f and 1m5f

  • Haggas 38% at Newcastle this term

  • Alan Dudman has had two winners in two days

Newcastle - 14:50: Back Night At Sea

Willem Twee made it two wins in two days at advised prices of 13/27.50 and 16/54.20, and it's the All-Weather again in the face of the brutal storms and Newcastle's afternoon card.

Night At Sea is prominent in the betting at 10/34.33 for the 1m4f extended Maiden, and she's bigger than the Roger Varian-trained Franberri, and when there's a Varian horse around that price, I am keen to see if we can get it beat.

This will be stern test over over the extended middle-distance, and we've seen with Newcastle already this week it's tough going to make up any sort of ground from the rear.

The selection ran at Chester's May meeting over 1m4f on just her second start in soft conditions and wasn't in love with the idea of the tight track and turns that day. She hung and was outpaced but still acquitted herself reasonably well.

She last appeared at Catterick that month on quick ground and was beaten by what appeared a very strong stayer, but she did race more prominently and I can see her getting out early for this, which is a good thing with the way the track is riding.

Her sire Sea The Stars (one of my favourites), has an excellent record over 1m4f to 1m5f at Newcastle and chimes in with a win rate of 29% and placed at 46%.

She'll have no problems staying today and she's fresh after a 161-day break.

Newcastle - 16:00: Back Lou Lou's Gift

Quite a lively market on the Sportsbook for the 16:00 with a bit of a punt developing on the newcomer Rosa Applause from 3/14.00 into 15/82.88 this morning, but I am happy to go with Lou Lou's Gift for this.

The 2yo filly made her debut at Yarmouth recently but was third behind a Godolphin horse of Charlie Appleby's with the benefit of experience in Romantic Style, who looked potentially useful.

Lou Lou's Gift was very keen in the middle part of the race at Yarmouth and conceded first run in terms of her position behind the first and second, as both cut out the running and sat prominently.

I liked the way she stayed on under hands and heels and wasn't given a hard time at all by her jockey and there was a big enough gap to the fourth behind her to suggest she has a fair bit of ability.

The pace was slow at Yarmouth for that run too, and a race finishing speed of 107% denoted an effort that might be worth upgrading considering she came from further back.

Her sire Lope De Vega has a 36% placed record over 6f at Newcastle and while the William Haggas yard are a bit quiet at the moment with just 1-17 in the last two weeks, he does have a strike-rate at Newcastle this term of 38%.
