Listowel - 15:15: Back Sirjack Thomas

Sirjack Thomas looks a very well handicapped horse at Listowel on Tuesday afternoon, and his mark of 76 is just too tempting to ignore.

He's a tough old sort that usually is in deeper races than today and this will be his 13th start of the season but he's holding his form well enough judged on his latest fifth in the Irish Cambridgeshire.

The 8yo was competing in a field of 22 on that occasion and was part of the near-side group in which he ran on well from his usual hold-up position.

Sirjack Thomas also finished in the Nasrullah Handicap earlier in the campaign and he's a horse who does like a big field with something to aim at.

He isn't ground dependant and acts on pretty much any surface, and considering in 2021 he was rated 100, Adam Caffrey can claim to make him well treated.

Listowel - 15:50: Back Blues Emperor

The Irish Cambridgeshire form that saw Sirjack Thomas in fifth last time is relevant with the second selection as Blues Emperor is another to come out of that race and he finished a cracking second in that big field.

It's a brave move from his trainer Johnny Murtagh to go up in trip today for 1m1f as he could be very interesting back to 7f, but he should get away with the trip at Listowel and he's a horse that can lead and sit on the pace.

His effort at the Curragh last time is most certainly worth upgrading as he was up with the searing pace for a long time and out of the first five placed, he was the one that fared best of those ridden forward. Indeed, the winner came from a long way back.

The unexposed 4yo is very tough and genuine and has a Premier Handicap victory to his name this term already and he's got more in him from 97 despite holding top weight here.

Ben Coen knows him well and rode him superbly at Naas to win in March, and with a victory at Listowel last year to take his maiden, a return to this track is a plus.

Any rain won't go amiss either, and the forecast this week is for rain, rain and more rain. Soft will do nicely.
