Horse Racing Tips: Humanity to dance to Rowley win for 14/1 HQ double

Newmarket
Alan is hoping to add to yesterday's single winner with two for Newmarket

Alan Dudman picked out a 5/16.00 winner yesterday and he's tackling the Newmarket card on Friday with two tips...

  • Banner Road an easy 5/16.00 winner at Ayr yesterday

  • Filly up in class to take Group 3 at HQ

  • Humanity looks well in for the Old Rowley Cup

Newmarket - 14:25: Back Dance Sequence

Victory in the Oh Sharp Stakes has eluded Charlie Appleby so far, but Dance Sequence can break that particular blank for the trainer as a 10/34.33 chance in today's Group 3.

Clearly Ralph Beckett's Skellet is a worthy favourite as the form of her Salisbury win is beginning to work out well and the upturn of the Beckett team has been top drawer of late, but that also has impacted on the betting as she's 13/82.63. In days gone by and with the wobble or two from Appleby, these two would have been swapped positions.

Dance Sequence won on the July course in the summer, and she's a big Dubawi who showed her inexperience that day but she overcame the steady pace to win.

She'll have no problems in getting 1m down the line and a rise in class awaits today - so it will be interesting to see how she's developed as she's been off for 104 days. Appleby often gives these fillies time, and the dam Tearless has produced four horses, all of whom have won races with three over 7f.

Chic Columbine has plenty of experience, but her win at Doncaster came from 80, and I'd be very disappointed if the selection couldn't beat her.

Newmarket - 15:35: Back Humanity

Humanity produced one of the performances of the Kempton season two weeks ago, and carrying a 6lb penalty to sneak into the Old Rowley Cup could turn out to be a masterful piece of placing from John Gosden.

The 3yo Roaring Lion colt had shown his qualities winning at Lingfield over 1m4f previously, but his Kempton win on handicap debut last time from 82 was a demolition job winning by 6L.

Gosden does well with these young horses switching to handicaps, and we saw that with Sweet William earlier in the season in the Ebor.

He's well-in here taking on his elders and his sire is proving to be a good influence for stamina with six 1m4f winners from his 40 runners so far, while 40% have placed for Roaring Lion over the trip.

I am not too fussed about the ground today as he switches from the All-Weather and he looks a fairly straightforward ride despite the headgear as he races close to the pace.

Back Humanity @ 9/43.25
