Jeans Maite return to Southwell a plus

Can Heathen get back on track?
-
A return to Southwell is a big plus for Roy Bowring's Jeans Maite, with the trainer tending to have his winners at his local track anyway. The handler has managed 19 winners in five years at a 14% strike rate which is pretty good going for a small yard.
Jeans Maite returned from a 134-day break last time at Wolverhampton over 5f and being a huge price was keen enough.
With the possibility of that run being needed and the chance to get back to Southwell in a winnable class, she looks an each-way contender.
She did run well at Doncaster at the back-end of the turf season in 0-85 company and the fact it was testing for the 5f there down such a long straight could mean she isn't quite as quick as she used to be for 5f (the trip she has done the majority of her racing at) as she goes up to 6f tonight.
That is a nagging doubt as she has proven best at 5f, but she's a front-runner and has one way of going and if she can last home, might be able to hold onto a place.
She was cut from 20s into 14s yesterday and that still looks on the large side considering we have the four places with the extra place on the Sportsbook.
When Heathen won over 1m4f at Wolverhampton last March, I thought he had the look of a promising stayer as he won with plenty in hand that day.
Since then it has been a complete horror show and a disaster. He was stuffed out of sight in soft conditions on turf at Thirsk, and a dabble with 2m didn't come off as he looked a complete non-stayer.
Heathen has since left Ed Dunlop and switched to David O'Meara, and with him struggling off marks in the 80s, he's back down to 74 (a mark he was successful from at Wolverhampton) which makes him more interesting.
He was priced up intially at 10/111.00 on the Sportsbook yesterday, and that lasted for about two minutes and was into 13/27.50 in a flash. So I expect him to possibly drift a little today, well, here's hoping.
I really liked the way he travelled last March when winning and he looked a natural on the All-Weather. However, the bet comes with risks attached as he ran no sort of race at Lingfield last time - although he was hampered a couple of times in the final three furlongs.
He may have gone at the game (GATG) with a couple of heavy defeats, but if he can get back to something like his form from the spring, 74 is a good mark and the trainer switch is a plus.
Heathen will be an interesting one to monitor on the Exchange with the Betfair Beacons - to see if he goes back out.
