Trainer Chris Gordon is bang there in terms of winners at Fontwell with a record over the last five seasons of 35 winners at 18%, but more importantly he chimes in with a level stakes profit of +30.08 in that time, and he has some good chances to add to that on Saturday.
San Pedro stands out as a stable switcher from Paul Henderson, and today will be his debut for Gordon. A price of 7/42.75 sees him as the market leader.
The selection ran out a winner over CD last time when beating the 120-rated Fifty Ball, and while it was only his second career victory over hurdles, he displayed a willing attitude to win from 94.
The 6yo has improved for going up to extreme distances and key could also be better ground, as the soft done for him at Plumpton previously, and he was far happier on the sounder surface winning at Fontwell back in the spring.
He's likely to make the running too as he sauntered to a win from the front by 12L at Lingfield last winter.
Gordon's son Freddie takes over from Harry Cobden for this conditionals' race, and Gordon Jnr can take off 3lbs.
I am firmly in the Gordon camp today and the booking of Bryony Frost for Red Windsor takes the eye for his chaser, as Frost is excellent on chasers in presenting them at their fences and she's usually positive. In a small field, I can see him making all in a rhythm in front.
Rated 121 over hurdles, he won his novice at the track over hurdles on good ground last October, and while the race wasn't strong by any means, he won easily and dominated - clearly enjoying the step up to an intermediate distance.
I think he'll get further in time despite him faltering over 2m2f at the track in a handicap - although I put the ground down as as excuse with it soft that day.
He was last seen in April at Kempton back in novice company, but the track at that minimum distance looked too sharp for him.
This isn't a particularly strong race and Gordon has another in the field in Proper Twelve who looked good at Market Rasen in the spring, but he flopped last time at Plumpton.
He does have a tendency to go to his right, but I am backing him today for his chase debut.
