Fifty sent as a gift for an each-way play
Back Fifty Sent @ 11/1 in the 17:30 at Newcastle
Doncaster was a fair meeting for the column over Saturday and Sunday with a BSP 20 placed and a 9.85 BSP winner yesterday with Little Muddy - if ever there was a case of nominative determinism, she was it.
A good run of win singles from the last seven days were at decent prices with a pair of 11.5 winners and a 5.19, so hopefully the column can land a double this week and Newcastle looks the best punter-friendly card on Monday.
Trainer Michael Dods is hardly in blistering form, but that's offset by the 11/1 price of Fifty Sent, although the Durham handler had Brunch finish second over the weekend.
The case is fairly straightforward in terms of the case to be made, as Fifty Sent departed from Michael Bell to join Dods, and I would be surprised if he couldn't get a win out of a horse who has dropped in the weights.
Whether it's today we'll see, but he has ability and is down to 61 and he bumped into an improving type on his final start at Yarmouth.
He can travel well in his races, and went quite smoothly last time. He also hit a low in-running at Beverley and traded 2.01/1 from a BSP of 57.0. He was given too much to do on the Westwood, though, but 1m2f seems to suit.
We can play each-way for four places here with the Extra Place Special.
Hit winning form with Carr's Rhythm
Back Rhythm @ 6/1 in the 20:30 at Newcastle
I'm struggling to recall the last time I backed a Ruth Carr runner, as I do have my favourite stables, but Carr's in-form at the moment with 6-22 at 27% and a profit of +31.25, and Rhythm makes some appeal at 6/1.
Murbih heads the betting, and he done the column a wonderful turn last week when scoring at 11.5, but it's his third run in a matter of days, and I am not so sure about him at a stiff 6f like Newcastle.
Rhythm will get a pace to aim at and she's a horse that likes to sit handy on a front-runner and is proven over 6f.
The plan here, well for me anyway, is for her to perch tight on Murbih and pounce late on. She signed off 2022 with wins at Pontefract and Newcastle - both over 6f, and she's well treated on her old form with Richard Hannon.
At 6/1, she can sneak into a place hopefully with the four on offer as an Extra Place Special.
