Trip of 3m to suit Paddy O'Mahler

Cody shooting for another win up in class
Sue Smith's Paddy O'Mahler is a typical runner for the Yorkshire team with a proper stout pedigree, and the first try at 3m today might unlock some improvement in the 6yo.
Three runs this term with a total of defeats at 14L, 14L and 22L hardly screams "back me" material, though, but he is around 4s.
He didn't run too badly in a novice at the track back in November and certainly jumped better than his previous run and that effort proceeded a drop back to 2m at Newcastle just before Christmas, and he was very much outpaced there over the minimum in very gusty conditions.
Smith's runner now has a mark of just 102 for his handicap debut and having been ridden by three conditionals, now has Nick Scholfield on.
The favourite is at 11/43.75, and with Paddy O'Mahler at 4/15.00 it looks fairly open, but the key is the trip here.
I backed two Rebecca Menzies recently, both on the Flat and both were tailed off without trace, but back to jumping with the yard and Tom Cody looks worth siding with again after an impressive win last time.
Cheekpieces have worked wonders with this horse with a pair of easy wins at different trips and he absolutely hacked up last time at Wetherby by 10L and the time wasn't too bad in comparison to another handicap that day, plus he travelled so well.
A rise of just 8lb for a 10L success underrates the win completely, but he does like testing ground and has no issue with 3m at all as he won over that trip at Newcastle when scoring by 5L.
His jumping looks more polished these days and of course he has to improve again in a better race, but he goes well at the track and has enough pace if the race becomes tactical.
